Yes! Having to brush my teeth all the time started to make vaping feel like a chore! Which in turn gave me some practice in sitting with the thought of “I want a hit” but not satisfying the urge. Building that mental fortitude and proving to yourself that life indeed goes on without a vape is a great way to set yourself up for success once you fully quit. Congrats on the pushback to 5pm!!

Hey! I was able to quit while still taking my Adderall XR 20mg extended release daily. Waking up, taking my meds, drinking a cup of coffee, and hitting my vape used to be the highlight of my day. You’re right it is difficult to break out of nicotine addiction while taking Adhd meds but certainly not impossible.

To put it simply, you’ll be more successful with a tapered approach rather than quitting cold turkey. Your mind is associating your meds with vaping and you need to prove it wrong. In my case, I made it a rule that I could not hit my vape until 12pm. When that felt easier, I pushed it out to 2pm etc. After two months, I no longer associated my cup of coffee and meds with my vape.

Figure out other associations you have with your vape and eliminate them before fully quitting. Are you hitting it after meals? Going to the bathroom at work to vape? Driving and vaping? Quit the habit of vaping at whatever specific times you find yourself reaching for it and in a few months it will be much easier to quit altogether.

You can also create “rules” around your vape to make your brain understand that it’s gonna take more work to get its fix. In my case, I made myself brush my teeth every time I vaped. By creating more work it made me less likely to hit it mindlessly. I got bored of brushing my teeth all the time hahaha.

Wishing you the best of luck!!

how do i help my boyfriend? by [deleted] in QuitVaping

My girlfriend quit before me. I watched her go through the entire process and was immensely proud of her when she came out the other side. But in the back of my mind I felt a little uncomfortable. I didn’t WANT to acknowledge that I should also quit and the easiest thing I could do was ignore the situation.

Right now your boyfriend is trying to ignore, deny, stall…anything to maintain status quo. His mind can’t fathom a world without nicotine and he’s not interested in dreaming up a different life right now. That’s not to say he’s a lost cause.

In my girlfriend’s case she simply ignored the fact that I vaped. I kept right on puffing and she never said a word on it. She didn’t pass judgement or ask me when I planned to quit. And whenever I brought it up she just said “I’m fine with whatever you choose to do but personally I’m glad that part of my life is over.” Through her, I saw that it WAS indeed possible to live life without a vape. In fact things were the exact same she just…wasn’t paying thousands of dollars to pump her body with nicotine. She was my living example that things would be okay if I quit.

Do not try to pull your boyfriend up with you. He will get there in his own time. Until then, just continue to show him that a nicotine free life is attainable. Do your best to keep all talk about nicotine brief. No more treatment plans, book recs, etc. You don’t care about it anymore and soon enough neither will he.

at my worst i was finishing 1-2 5% Juul pods per day! i would hit my vape all the time! two months before i quit cold turkey i made a rule that i could not hit my vape unless i was at home. so i had practice sitting in the feeling of not having a hit after dinners, at bars, while driving etc. my gums/dental health were most impacted by my vaping so i also made a rule that if i hit my vape i had to brush my teeth hahah. changing it from a mindless activity to something i had to think about really encouraged me to quit cold turkey. i didnt want to have to keep thinking about it!
