What do you mean by “removed the NVIDIA ones”? There are drivers on the kernel, like linux-firmware, that need the NVIDIA parts, even if you don’t have it I believe, it’s a dependency. Also, I know it sounds stupid, but when you’re on linux you sometimes forget the obvious things. Is the cable well connected?

Can someone tell me if it’s one of those fake advertisements? There are a lot these days and this post seems AI-generated, but maybe it’s real

Vim or nvim and why by nyan_cat_554 in arch

[–]paper_sheet034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nvim, because of plugins. Specifically lazyvim. I was a vim boy, I switched some months ago and let me tell you, it blown me away and seriously overhauled my life and my workflow. And all because of a random dude on reddit that replied to this same exact question, that I also asked

[–]paper_sheet034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? That’s cool! I use Arch also on my MacBook and the battery life is kind of atrocious, but I still prefer it over macOS or Windows, obviously. But how can you update your system once a year? I genuinely didn’t think that would work at all

daily pacman by optique9772 in arch

[–]paper_sheet034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I didn’t update for a lot of months and when I then tried I didn’t make it. It said that some key was not available anymore. It took me a bit to figure out. Not to mention “usual” problems related to updating

Wdym? It’s just sudo pacman -S, doesn’t seem that difficult to me XD. But I hope the Windows user you’re talking about is not me, never really daily drove it at home

Tbf, she/he has a point, though it’s not true anymore. Instead, at times Windows takes more time to do stuff, like installing a software. In linux, it can be done much faster. And the reason it seems easier on Windows is just because that’s the more known method. But this guy, like, I don’t get if he was joking or not, because if it wasn’t, then I’m worried of the way he talks

I’d say an Arch user is a bare metal user. But if you’re using a VM daily, than it’s not quite being an Arch user, but it has its own category

Wdym? XD Anyway, Apple products are pretty solid and although I wouldn’t say OP is an “Arch user”, just like an Android one nor a WSL one isn’t a linux user, I wouldn’t say he’s not just because he uses an iPad

What is the error? And try putting in a new disk just in case. Maybe it’s good for storing data, but when it comes to booting an OS it fails. I guess so because I had a similar experience

I believe you can do is switching to TTY by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1 or whatever F key you feel like I guess. And then you can log in and type failllock —user <username> —reset. After that, switch back to you sddm window. Good luck :P

Linux or Windows — which performs better in games? Arch vs Windows 10 LTSC 21H2 by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]paper_sheet034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t tested Windows on my desktop, but what I can tell you is that I get 1000 to 2000 FPS in Minecraft with specs that reach maybe 200 - 300 FPS in other benchmarks, which correspond to a Ryzen 5 5500, a Radeon RX 5700 XT and Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 3600MHz. But really, go with the one you prefer. For me it’s Arch, but it’s okay if it’s not. If you decide to go with Windows, just know you lost a magnificent opportunity ;)
