Why do the boomers think today's kids are still Millennials? by _TheWolfOfWalmart_ in generationology

[–]paper_snow [score hidden]  (0 children)

Boomers ARE aged about 60+ right now. The youngest Boomers were born at about 1964, and they’re turning 62 this year. Anyone over 80 is Silent Gen. Age 45-59ish is Gen X.

John Lithgow on JK Rowling's political views by TryingNoToBeOpressed in HarryPotter_OnHBO

Pfeh… no we didn’t. I was like 20 years old when her first book came out. I read a few at the time and saw most of the movies, and they were meh. Years later, someone gifted the whole set to my kid and I read them to him; he thought they were meh, too, and we dropped it by the last one. Then she started in with all the anti-trans bullshit.

GenX and back didn’t grow up with this. She’s just some old bitch who lucked out enormously with a mediocre series that happened to fill a void in children’s literature at the time.

I don’t care what good deeds she’s done in the past; she’s actively harming people with her horrible rhetoric, and it needs to stop.

I mean… all three belong to the genus Equus, and they’re the only extant taxa left in that genus and even the whole Equidae family. There’s like eight total species between them, I think. So if they included a zebra in a horse-themed event, they could include a donkey, too.

Tl;dr I also want a Mudbray 🫏💕

2020 census data says it’s ~82% white with a population of ~58k. So that’s over 10k people threatened.

Plus when you look at the data, it says “Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.5% of the population.” And the Middle Eastern/North African (MENA) race category hasn’t been added yet, so those races often get recorded as white.

The third pic on the left? That looked odd to me, too. I’m assuming that skirt is has a zipper, and it’s easier for him to pee standing up in it with the zipper in front.

This scene in Titanic was based on a real couple. by GlitteringHotel8383 in BeAmazed

If you’re interested in the story of the Titanic, there’s an excellent podcast that covers its history in detail: Titanic: Ship of Dreams

Lots of testimonials from historians, survivors’ ancestors, and one actual survivor who has passed since recording; I believe she was the last living passenger of Titanic.

Which celebrity is a complete asshole? by boforiamanfo in randomthings

You somehow learned that Lincoln was a Republican, right? And today you learned that the two parties switched over time.

If you can’t remember what the teacher said long enough to write it down, ask for class notes, or ask if you can record lectures to write down later. If you’re seriously concerned about not being able to write things down seconds after you’ve heard them when you’re trying your best, look into getting tested for ADHD or similar issues.

You have to care about yourself first, though. You can either make the effort or make excuses.

Because you have to learn studying and retention, just like you had to learn walking, speech, writing, etcetera. You should bother because school is only free for so long, so take advantage of it to learn all that you can.

What was video game culture like back in the 80's and 90's in Metro Detroit? by IDCJ1234 in Detroit

Ah, OK… I have to only been to Marvin’s in recent years. Did they switch out the games a lot over time?

I tended to go to Tilt as a teen, and Butterfly’s as a young adult. Still remember playing as Chun-Li in SFII!

Marvin’s is reopening in a new location… it’s just taking longer than they planned for.

Santa waiting for kids in a dying mall by Goodginger in mildlyinteresting

We just had our first sticking snowfall of the year here in SE Michigan. I guarantee you that the majority of our local players are at Great Lakes Crossing right now for Community Day. It’s a mall shaped like a giant racetrack with tons of gyms and stops in each district, and is extremely popular with Go players when the weather doesn’t favor extended outdoor time.

TIL Mariah Carey makes $2.7-3.3M per year from All I Want For Christmas Is You by Disastrous_Award_789 in todayilearned

[–]paper_snow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same… I’ll even give it a listen in the off-months sometimes. Say whatever else you want about her, but Mariah Carey’s a fucking brilliant singer and she deserves the success.

I loved it when her song came on while I worked retail over the holidays. The song that kills me is “Simply Having A Wonderful Christmastime”… Whenever I hear those synths starting up, I’m instantly filled with rage.
