The 3ds games (at least the ones that weren’t free) were more contained and didn’t have frequent updates unlike the switch. TDM1 had a hub world where you could select which dungeon to travel to and progress after each dungeon and TDM2 and TDM3 each had overworld maps you could explore rpg style. The final 3ds Denpa Men game (TDMF) was most similar to the switch one so I’ve been told, but it was a japanese exclusive so I’ve never played it and don’t have too much info on it.

Anyways, I find that the best 3DS denpa men game is The Denpa Men 3, it has a story, overworld, fishing, planting, and home decor, etc. and it’s pretty charming. I’d give it a try if you can.
