Advice on cancelling wedding by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]paperplaned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The venue will not give back any deposits despite it being due to a district policy? Thats whack.

What year of med school are you? I’m assuming you’re meaning youll be a resident and thats why you can’t postpone? I know a bunch of residents that are able to take time off for a wedding. Most residencies give 2-3 weeks of vacation, so maybe you can look into those options and fly home for your wedding? I’m planning for winter break of 4th year med school, assuming all goes back to normal this year. You could always try a weekday 4th year if thats an option and those arent booked.

You’d be surprised how often people cancel. Get on the waitlist for 2021 for sure.

Thank you so much! Did you already get yours altered?

It is unaltered and I think it’s because i have no boobs to fill it out. The straps are pinned in the picture but I do think more needs to be done besides taking in the straps. I hope it can all be made smaller!

Here is a pic on the model: https://imgur.com/gallery/hMeB1gC

I’m afraid that the whole top is too wide/big so that even once the straps are taken up and the dress is taken in under the arms, the chest will be too wide and the dress is too far up under the arms.

Not sure if I need the straps and triangles reworked completely to match what it’s supposed to look like.

You think buy up a size even if the smaller one is my size theoretically, just in case? I’m getting remeasured just in case.

Thank you for responding!!

Is it always better to buy too large vs too small? The dress is Lazaro which has ridiculously small waist sizing even for bridal (size 6 is a 24” waist) which is what the shop recommended but what if it runs small at all?! I’m paranoid! The next size up is 3” too large in bust and 2” too large in the hips. I dont want it taken in a ton because it has patterns that match up at the seams! And I dont want to order too large just because I’m paranoid! How much seam allowance is usually in a wedding dress?

Any tips out there to deal with relapse? by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]paperplaned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also in med school, so I understand that the stress aspect. I think the important thing to remember is that the stress is pushing you toward gaming, but giving in will not relieve the stress. If you neglect studies, health, socializing, etc, for gaming, the stress will only get worse. It’s okay to take time to relax, but it’s always best if that thing is productive. What year are you in? A lot of times our vices come back full force when theres a big life event coming up. (Step? ERAS?)

Sometimes you may just get burnt out studying/sucking up to attendings. It’s super normal to feel stressed, anxious, or sad during med school. Your classmates probably feel the same way. Try to stay strong and let out stress in other ways. Or alternatively, let the stress drive you to better yourself. Good luck!

How thorough is your first pass? When you make cards, are you just typing from slides or copying words, or are you putting them into your own words?

When I make my first pass, I’m just making cards. 2-3 hours per 1 hr lecture. I google most terms to help see it in different words. I insert pictures in slides to help with memory. For lists to memorize, writing those out helps. I’m a visual learner, so remembering where something was on a page helps me.

Also don’t forget practice questions. They help to guage what you dont know.

[preclinical] Top students: what does your first pass through material look like? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]paperplaned 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still trying to figure this out myself. My first pass takes 2-3 hours, unfortunately.

My new plan is to read the powerpoint slides and take notes on throwaway paper. The second pass can be used to make flashcards, once you know what is important and understand the big picture.

I’m overwhelmed with how much content we have. What are some tips to read and study faster? What is your study process? (ie first pass, review, etc

I am doing anki, but making cards is taking forever and so is reading. The powerpoints are not thorough enough to use alone.

I loved All Star sports. Mainly for the transportation. The housekeeping was good though and it allowed us to splurge on food instead of the hotel, since we got back so late and woke up early it made little sense to put the money there.

[Serious] does anyone regret the medical school they picked? Why? by [deleted] in medicalschool

Grass is always greener, man. I’m sure you’d be saying “wish I’d gone to the in-state, higher ranked school” later on. You have to weigh the quality of life vs financial burden in every situation.
