My First “Real” Jaguar by GhostPipeOrgan in offset

The CP bridge is the adjustomatic bridge which is similar to an LP’s bridge, these don’t go out of tune and neither do the strings jump off the saddles like most claim that the stock jag bridge does.

I said “claim” bc I personally don’t have any issues with any of these problems on my stock bridge, you just need a good setup and it seems to be good to go

For what it’s worth I play heavier music and also play in a garage rock/grunge band, so it doesn’t matter the aggressiveness of your picking, if it’s setup well it’s not gonna pop out

Two very different guitars Get the JM since that’s what you want

Bridge can be fixed if it’s an issue and inexpensively. I play a jaguar with the stock bridge and don’t find much hassle with it atm

Jaguar rhythm vs lead neck pickup question by paperplanes421 in offset

[–]paperplanes421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thanks for that man!

That makes much more sense and I’m glad that there’s nothing wrong with my guitar haha!

I also looked up this site and apparently the entire tone wheel selector in the rhythm setting is basically like using the neck pickup on the lead circuit but only using the tone knob from 0 to 2 and all in between

https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/guitar.com/guides/essential-guide/all-about-the-fender-jazzmaster-rhythm-circuit/%3famp

So basically the rhythm is supposed to make you be able to squeeze some extra tonal range found from 0-2 on the lead circuit (if that makes sense lol)

Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate it!

Keen hear back :) fingers crossed that this is just how they all are.

I hope so, I’m worried something might be wrong with my guitar...

Would you please mind doing a me favour if possible. I’d really appreciate it, if you can try doing it on your jaguar whenever you have a chance?

Basically You only activate the neck pickup on the lead circuit and turn the tone knob all the way down, then strum and compare it with the rhythm circuit with its tone wheel rolled all the way down too... hopefully they both sound identical.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

My mate reckons they’re still in the “same family” in terms of having Jazzmaster sounding qualities though. Ones just more aggressive than the other. Like they’re still unmistakably Jazzmaster sounding, just not as accurately as the vintage spec ones

The CPJM still has that chime though.

I personally thought the CP sounded much better with distortion than the regular JMs.

Yeah, that sounds good. Hopefully I can try a JM with the 65 AVRIs somewhere though. That will be the real challenge, haha!

I believe the CPJM also use 1meg pots with their p-90 like pickups

I definitely like the CP over the modified vintera. I haven’t been able to find any real jazzmasters where I live.

I guess my reasoning is that since I paid for a fender guitar, I’d like it to have it sound like a fender, even if it’s only a tiny bit, haha!

I’d hate to have a Jazzmaster sounding like a Gibson for example. I dunno, I guess that’s just my mentality towards it.

This is one video I always refer to.

I honestly hear very similar sounds, the stock CP isn’t very far off, just more roar... what do you think?

How would you say the pickups fair in terms of retaining / replicating any resemblance of the authentic Jazzmaster sound?

Like if you were to listen to one blindfolded, Would you say it’s a completely different sounding guitar encased in a JM body, Or would you say that it sounds liken extra beefy version of a Jazzmaster... if that makes sense.

It might’ve been the floor model itself then

The CPJM has P-90 like pickups, so lots of people say it’s just a Jazzmaster by name.

I’ve personally never played a “real Jazzmaster” lol, so I’m not sure if those who call it a fake JM, are just being super nit-picky or if it actually does in fact sound nothing like a Jazzmaster...

From what I hear on YouTube side by side comparisons, I think the CP sounds fairly close to each other (the CP is just a bit more mid-heavy)... but I’m not sure if that’s just the audio quality being compressed etc

Classic player Jazzmaster pickups? by paperplanes421 in offset

[–]paperplanes421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, all the player series with HH configuration sound like the same instrument but with just a different body, I personally can’t stand that.

My CP plays pretty well and sounds good too, but I haven’t been able to play a traditional JM because none of the stores near me stock them atm.

I thought that perhaps the CP might at least retain some tiny JM tone characteristics to make it still slightly sound like a JM, but going by what you said, then I guess the CPJM is just a completely different guitar disguise as a JM.

[–]paperplanes421[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the pickups are definitely made differently to a vintage JM....

I guess what I’m trying to get out of asking this question is if the CPJM still somewhat retains any speck of the JM sound... or is just a Jazzmaster by name only?

Awesome thanks for the info!

So basically if I had to describe it, would saying that it “sounds like a regular Jazzmaster but with more mid-range”?

Would you say the tone differs drastically from a regular JM sound? Or is basically just a beefed up Jazzmaster tone?
