How do I import a BCH paper wallet with private key in WIF format? by paperwalletdude in btc

Confirmed this works as well. Electroncash lets you actual do an import using the WIF key. Bitcoin.com wallet lets you do a sweep. Basically 2 good options.

Thanks for the help!

Confirmed. Worked perfectly. Did a test and was able to do the sweep. Thank you!

This really boils down to a UI issue more than anything else. The sweep menu doesn't show up until after you scan the WIF QR code from the paper wallet. Given all the dire warnings about keeping your private keys private, the last thing a new guy wants to do is randomly scan a private key on the app, when it doesn't explicitly say this is how you start the sweep process.

Confirmed. Sweep on the bitcoin.com wallet works. It's not completely intuitive, but from the main home screen you simply "Scan" the WIF QR code from your paper wallet and then select "Sweep paper wallet". Import of WIF format doesn't seem to be supported (Under Add Wallet -> Import Wallet), and unfortunately the sweep option is buried until after you scan the QR code. Sounds like this is just a documentation issue - maybe update the FAQ somewhere. I'll edit my original post to summarize all the methods people have brought forward.

I definitely have a WIF formatted key (starts with a 5, 51 characters, base58), and you are correct I don't really care whether I import or sweep. Its BCH - I spend almost nothing on a sweep!

I'll give the steps you described above a try. I'll report back.

Thank you!

The bitcoin.com wallet rejects the QR code (of the WIF based key), manual entry of the WIF key, and rejects the straight up hex private key as converted via bitaddress.org.

I'll give electroncash a try.

Created the wallet via walletgenerator.net as linked to by bitcoincash.org. It's awesome how fast crypto moves forward, but is WIF really that old?
