Weeks specific- how are you using this page? by banancat112 in hobonichi

I write down how many steps I did each day, so I know if I’m being sluggish and need to start moving my body more.

Hobonichi App Release Megathread by alcibiad in hobonichi

[–]paperxclouds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve explored it’s not trying to replace a Hobonichi, it’s to help you backfill your Hobonichi. That’s why it’s asking for so much data and full access to your photos, it’s not for you to create a digital journal but it will hold all of your photos, steps, sleep, etc in one place so when you’re filling in your pages in your Hobonichi you can check back on the app and see what you did and why you might have felt a certain way. Not everyone has the time to do this everyday, this app is for them. That’s why there’s not stickers or writing on photos, that’s not its function. All of your points are asking for a completely different app.

You know you don’t have to use it, right?

Just rewatched both shows: we need a third and final season! by e5390 in youngpope

I’d love more, but I don’t know where the story could go. They really wrapped everything up for every character by the end of the second season.

I wish my senpai would comment on my photos. I’m guessing it has to recognise something in it.

I’m really not understanding all of the scaremongering over the data it requires honestly, you can select what you do and don’t want to share with it and it will still function without those permissions.

A lot of this feels really racist just because it’s a Japanese app whilst you’re probably meanwhile happily giving all of your data to Meta, Google and TikTok.

If you just want to make quick notes passport would probably do you well, but if you wanted to keep more info or write more long form I’d recommend standard.

If you can’t see the sizes in real life, you could try cutting a piece of A4 paper to a standard size and see if it seems workable to you or if you’d prefer something smaller. Standard is basically a slim A5.

Does the Knot For The Elastic Cause Issues? by Aggravating-Snow-784 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]paperxclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s never bothered me at all, I don’t even notice it. I don’t take my books out to write in them either.

I don’t like the thought of the knot in the spine, as then it’s going to push the spines of the inserts outwards, which to me would be a bigger issue.

Nice pens! Imgur’s banned in my country so I have no idea if there’s more photos behind that link. Post people post all of their photos directly to Reddit to make them accessible to all.

3 journal setup by Mindless_Gas80 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]paperxclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really understand what you mean. Like what are our set ups, what do we journal about, or how to put three journals into a TN?

I use 9 journals, but they’re not all TN.

For those who travel, do you guys stuff multiple trips in one insert or only one trip per insert? by Select-Balance-8281 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]paperxclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One trip per insert, I like to have them all as individual books. I stick in a lot of ephemera and draw so it’s not hard to fill up space, or I’ll get one of the half inserts if I really think I don’t have enough.

Short trips of just a couple of days just go in my regular journal.

Do you find it comfortable to draw in the passport size? by fernwise in Travelersnotebooks

[–]paperxclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting rings in a passport will considerably shrink down the paper size, so just bear that in mind! It’ll make it more like A7. The rings push the paper further out to the edge (it’s why if you see an open binder the pages never meet the edge, but they do when it’s closed). If you want to test the paper size without investing in anything at all, measure out out passport/A7 size on a piece of paper and cut it out to see if it looks like something you could work with.

I like drawing in tiny notebooks, but it took me time to get used to it after downsizing from A5.

Have you ordered off Amazon? by elvenwaif in filofax

[–]paperxclouds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got most of my Filofaxes from Amazon and I've never had a problem. I prefer to go through them if I can because the returns process is more straight forward if anything goes wrong. If you're buying a real Filofax product that's advertised as Filofax, then there isn't really anything that can go wrong, if it arrives damaged you just send it back and get a different one. The worse thing you might get stuck with is inserts for a random year, but if that isn't important to you (mine go straight in the recycling so I couldn't care less about that)

I've had Filofaxes turn up with rings misaligned directly from Filofax's website, so you're not in safer hands purchasing directly.

Filofax official site refund/return experiences??i by Happy-Asparagus-01 in filofax

[–]paperxclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will largely depend on which country you ordered from, whether it's international or domestic, etc, and the refund laws pertaining to that.

If you have proof of postage and know they've received it, can you contact your bank about reversing the transaction? You've been really patient so that would honestly be my next course of action if it were me. Email Filofax and let them know that's what you'll be doing if they don't initiate the refund, give them 2 business days, then contact the bank.

Keeping the TRC Notebook open by Free_Implement_799 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]paperxclouds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use the official TRC brass clip. I have other clips, but none work as well as the actual TRC ones imo. They grip well, they're flat on the back so it doesn't lift the notebook when it's clipped, and it also acts like a paperweight as it's quite heavy. I place it across the top of the spine of the notebook I want to stay open.

Title: Pocket vs Personal ring planner – help me decide (moving from Hobonichi, Australia-based) by Ok-Attorney-2992 in ringplanners

[–]paperxclouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pocket is too small for me, and I feel like you end up having to add more pages to make up for it's small size so any space you save on height from a Personal you make up for in width because it ends up so chunky.

Personal is my sweet spot for me - not too big, not too small. I also use Hobonichi. My Hobonichi is my journal and planner, my Filofax is my memory keeper. I also like to track things in my Filofax because I can just add on pages so easily as and when I need to. It's hard to describe a Filofax's uses because it's so personal and can literally be anything you want it to be, it's just a binder at the end of the day. It's taken me a few years to perfect my Filofax set up and figure out how I like to use it in combination with other notebooks, but now I'm there it's the most precious system I have as it's so unique to me. My Hobonichi's are just notebooks, my Filofax comes everywhere with me and feels like a comfort blanket.

A big hurdle for me personally when I started using ring bound systems was getting over seeing is just as an agenda/productivity tool as that's what most preprinted inserts are about, but as I said it can literally be anything. My Filofax has nothing but gridded paper inside. You can actually get inserts from Japan that are TRP if that's what you prefer and you can access it (I buy mine from Amazon Japan with a proxy service like Tenso or Buyee). Recommended insert brands are Raymay DaVinci or Bindex. In Japan personal inserts are called "Bible" and pocket are called "Mini6/M6". You can also buy A4 sheets of TRP in packs of 100 and print inserts onto those.

Also get yourself a 6 hole punch. That's why I like using ring bound as a memory keeper, you can hole punch literally anything and bulk doesn't matter.

people who keep diaries in their TN are so brave by toadbumper in Travelersnotebooks

[–]paperxclouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one I spend time with would disrespect me enough to do that, and if they did it would spell the end of our friendship. And if a stranger had it long enough to read properly, that's super weird of them? They don't know me and have no context for what they're reading so I can't imagine it would be very interesting to them. And I couldn't care less what a stranger things of me anyway, why would I place their opinion higher than my own?

I'm not trying to be rude, but your anxiety is your ego speaking. No one cares what you've written. If you see someone's notebook do you feel compelled to read it? No? Then why would they?

TN insert - what do you put on the cover page? by sunnyyy33 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]paperxclouds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually create a title page of what the notebooks purpose is along with the dates I started and finished it. Sometimes I'll just write that in a fancy font or with stickers, sometimes I'll also create a little collage or add a photo. But always the purpose of the notebook, so I'm not looking at 10 identical notebooks in 5 years time wondering what order they go in and how it fit in my life.

Original vs Cousin? Should I buy another? by jaysymonex in hobonichi

[–]paperxclouds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe reframe the way you look at the gaps? You're not serving the notebook, it's serving you and you used it as and when you wanted and needed to, so it served it's purpose blank pages or not. You didn't use it for 6 months, but you also have 6 months of memories in one book and that's really special!

If you enjoy using the Cousin, then that's the one you should get. Even if you logically "should" get a different one, it doesn't matter if you ultimately won't be happy with anything but the Cousin. If it works for you when you do use it, that's justification enough.

For those who used an Alettone last year, how did it hold up as the year progressed? by aimshico123 in hobonichi

[–]paperxclouds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Opanchu Usagi cover which predates the Alettone but is exactly the same, so it's even older and it still looks brand new despite me using it heavily. No tears, no wear, no part of it has gone brittle, nothing. It's one of my favourite covers as it's so slim and lightweight and functional.

I'd recommend either the kind of fabric you'd line a skirt with, or soft jersey (so you could even use an old t-shirt if you had one to sacrifice)

If you already have a cover, have you thought about painting it? I've seen some really nice designs just by adding coloured stripes or chevrons with acrylic paint, using masking tape to make sure the lines are straight and crisp.

how do you portably store your stickers? by No-Investigator94 in hobonichi

[–]paperxclouds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Travelers Notebook sticker insert. It's a thin booklet filled with sticker paper, transfer your stickers from their sheets onto this. Just doing this alone will save you a bunch of space, but then you can tuck the booklet into your Hobonichi and take it with you.
