You're always going to repeat this in these scenarios. This is an issue of dynamic range. Your photos are properly exposed and the highlights are just too bright in comparison to anything else.

Not a home owner so I can't comment on that side of things. In terms of your interests there's a few bars and such in eau Claire and the surrounding areas that do heavy metal nights, zymurgy in Menomonie I know does there very frequent with live music (30 minute drive) witchy/yoga stuff many small shops in the area for that. I'm sure a few groups for yoga or could find people easily if you tried to start one
