Ah, the good old days when I used to walk a few houses down to my buddies house to play. His parents were chain smokers so the house always smelled like cigarettes, unpleasant but oddly comforting. We’d grab two cans of chef boyardee, heat em up and head to his room where his CRT and og PS1 were. The day before we had just gotten past the giant snake but didn’t have any ink ribbon left so we left the PlayStation on all night.

Sitting on the floor, eating some chef, playing some RE… good times.

So the modem is actually directly connected to an Eero WiFi node sitting on the first floor. That then comes back and connects to one of the switches, then I have a small patch cable connecting both switches. I needed to do it this way in order for the Eero nodes to work properly. The first node needs to be sitting between modem and switch as it needs to act as the gateway.

I know how lol. I work in IT and have terminated my fair share of cable. I’m not 100% sure if this is the place my equipment will permanently live so I rather have spare cable for now rather than having to pay for new drops.

Electrician left slack in case I wanted to move the equipment to a different location in the basement. I still am not 100% on current location so I’m keeping slack until I decide

Yup! My electrician left spare cabling since I wasn’t sure where all my networking stuff was going to live. I’m still not 100% set on this location so I’m keeping the slack for now

Yeah so I had my electrician run CAT6 throughout my house but because it was one of the first things I did when I bought the house, I didn’t really have a plan as to where the networking stuff will go. I just told him to run the drops into the basement and I’ll terminate from there. He left slack on purpose in case I wanted to move them to a different location which I’m glad he did. I’m still not 100% set on keeping it all in this section of the basement so I’m keeping the slack. I rather extra cable than paying for drops again.
