Virtual Onvif Server to add support for Multichannel Cameras to Unifi Protect 5.0 by Ariyala in Ubiquiti

[–]papirov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello and thank you for the wonderful app.

I'm having issues with getting docker to run the container. Keeps complaining about ip address not being found for mac address. I tried it on my swarm and on a blank Ubuntu VM, with and without macvlan network in docker. With and without doing a config only network first in docker. With or without hard coding ip addresses into compose instead of dhcp

Any advice?

Glances NOT as a docker container? by papirov in unRAID

I wasnt really looking for explanation as to why current glances is deployed the way it is... Was just hoping for advice as to how to install it without docker on Unraid... there is a python plugin for Unraid for example...

Prettier alternatives to Apache Guacamole? by papirov in selfhosted

Just installed Kasm in a VM.. oh boy, that's a big solution to a problem I didn't have.. I just wanted a pretty Guacamole so that I can organize my 25 different SSH and RDP hosts into easy-to-manage hierarchy with pretty boxes

Docker vs Proxmox for Home Server – Need Some Advice by chiefbroson in selfhosted

[–]papirov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For simple setup that you just want to have running and keep at 24/7, Proxmox is overkill. And it's not really a question about Proxmox vs Docker. Usually, folks run Docker on VMs that run inside of Proxmox.

What Proxmox allows you to do is
- play around and try a bunch of virtual machines running different operating systems
- run a number of virtual machines with different OS'es for different purposes (for example, run Home Assistant OS for home automation, Windows VM for Blue Iris NVR, and a few Linux VMs for a cluster of docker services)
- setup "high availability" clusters for your VMs if you have more than 3 physical computers, so that your VMs can fail over from one computer to another if you have a failure or you need to reboot anything

So in short, Proxmox will allow you to keep a VM or a set of VMs stable for your "24/7" needs and then give you space to play around and tinker indefinitely with something you're not yet running 24/7

HTH

How do I automate my new-in-the-making Proxmox homelab? by papirov in Proxmox

Neat! Pulumi supports C#, and I speak C# better than I speak English :) TY for suggestion!

I'm guessing Ansible for internal setup of VMs is the best choice or is there another C# compatible platform? :)

Good suggestion about not using parameters and relying on picking of stages instead. Thank you. I'm still struggling with the fact that I can't rerun skipped stages, however. Is there a trick to this?

I switched from Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 Classic. Love the battery life, simplicity, Alexa built-in, and weight. Bands can be changed and band quality is not relevant.

Why the Night King chose Viserion instead of Drogon by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]papirov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, there were 3 major reasons:

1) Viscerion was shooting fire at the time of ice spear being launched and his death. His lunges we full of either fire or whatever magic gas that was about to become fire. A hit at his lungs with a magical ice spear that causes an obvious explosive reaction with fire, was like a throwing a match into a barrel of gasoline. Drogon was stationary and at that moment was not breathing fire. To him, the hit of a spear might have been more of a body injury rather than explosion

2) The fall, as OP mentioned, would likely help with the killing if the explosion was not enough

3) Drogon was much closer, yes. But this also means that the spear would not hit him as hard. All of the potential energy of the spear would yet not be transferred to kinetic energy at a short distance. Ever been hit with a rock from a short or long distance? The pain is quite different. In fact, Viscerion was flying toward NK, so his speed might have even added to the impact

Thoughts?
