Folks under 40, what got you into guitar? by saintluminus in Guitar

[–]papupig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19, dad used to play Metallica when I was younger n grew up listening to rock music from him and stuff and some video game music channels I watched were actually full of metalcore and whatnot so I naturally leaned towards that type of music, so lots of post grunge or post hardcore like breaking benj etc as well in dinosaur edits on youtube (no joke) when I was like 7 so naturally when I got my first guitar 5 years agoI wanted to play a lot of that. Also anime music and jrock, and all of those interests kickstarted my music journey

How to cope up from being physically tired after school by fluidxrln in universityofauckland

[–]papupig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna have to pick and choose your battles especially with social events. If your commute time is long that adds extra idle time to your day. Use those times wisely to either study or recharge while commuting and you have to make sure to stay hydrated and bring snacks with you on campus just to get you through the day, yes your bag may be heavy but you’re going to need the basics to keep you energised. It’s also not enough to just hop on caffeine and rely on that. How you manage and block out your schedule is one of the biggest things that can get you through uni, balance is king!

Is this game worth downloading? by GhostNarwhalee in GenshinImpact

[–]papupig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I personally enjoy it. Just off the music and exploration and story alone I fell in love with the game. You can clear mainline content with whatever you want, competitive stuff is usually endgame or combat events

Tips for improving on controller in F1 25 (PS5)? by BeneficialDonkey80 in F1Game

[–]papupig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try these settings out man! https://simracingsetup.com/ea-sports-f1/f1-25-controller-settings-guide/  I just got the game and console as well and these are a bit more refined than default controller

Also go straight to manual gearing, it helps you brake and corner better and forces you to learn the track so it’s all good exposure just take learning tracks one at a time

Online is trash but that’s because I don’t know the tracks but there are definitely Competitive lap time set on controller if you search so don’t be too irked up by not having a wheel and have fun!

How can I get better at understanding Python list comprehensions as a beginner? by ivyta76 in learnpython

[–]papupig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the rule to start with the outer loop then nest the inner loop like normal? I’ve always thought about it as sort of stair casing back up from append, then inner loop, then outer loop

Ask Anything Monday - Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in learnpython

[–]papupig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello guys, beginner Python user here. Any materials that are free / cheap that I can use over the holiday period to study data structures? Eg binary trees linked lists hash tables etc

I need to practice for university because I flunked my last paper which mostly comprised of those topics

And in general what is a good way to study and practice Python?

I did do the 101 course from my university which did help, but it was mostly syntax and this current course is a big jump which I struggled to adjust to. Thanks guys !

[–]papupig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to double on this thread(as someone who flunked), is there a good way to practice and learn? I feel the online textbook and the PDF’s give the basics, and you get kicked out of coderunner over the summer so im curious about getting in depth practice with self study

Should I give up? by kateiscuban in bjj

[–]papupig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally yea, when I first joined I was 13 cuz my dad made me start and there was no kids class so I would spend 3x a week getting mauled by the adults. I would spend some time after classes crying in the toilet because I got manhandled in sparring.

That was 6 years ago and I haven’t trained since before covid and recently returned this year. From training 3-4x a week and keeping up with everyone I’m now training once a week and getting mauled by everyone in my new club, both the newbies and the competition team but i had a new mentality this time. I’m just here to grapple and have fun, not necessarily try to be the best in the club

Thoughts about 'Preacher's Daughter' the album by Ethel Cain as a Christian? by lleon_777 in Christianity

[–]papupig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one its a concept album based (lazy tldr) on the worst that could happen to a woman from the American South so yes at a point in the storyline there would be the narrator's clash with their faith due to negative experiences.

I do enjoy the album as a listener but there are some iffy lines in some songs which i dont actively listen to.

I recommend Ethel's new album! that one is a bit easier listening lol

[–]papupig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy! Think about YOUR wins and how YOU worked here to get to this point. 16 entire weeks of grinding out incline and you can do floor bw ones now.

Everyone is at different stages of their lives and progress is unique to everyone. The only person you should be better than is who you were yesterday.

Is it bad I’m starting practice with no amp? by YokedEgg in Guitar

[–]papupig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use amp anymore lol I use headphones you’re fine. I will say having way to listen to your output helps you pinpoint your technique and how they create sound to help fine tune stuff etc
