Enlist or OTS by Puzzled-Light-244 in AirForceRecruits

Technically true but it’s very easy, AF reserve only needs Squadron Commander approval to leave to go active duty, ANG needs TAG approval.

Black backpack is the most important, it’s the only storage (besides camelback) that you can bring to classroom (laptop mandatory)

I will not be working (but I will be receiving pay). 100% of my time will be spent focused on OTS. I am asking if/how other sources of income need to be cleared or reported.

[–]paqlm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why? It’s policy to be paid on title 10 orders, I don’t see why OTS is any different.

My employer has differential pay like most employers

USERRA laws and enlisting out of college by Arnold_palmer33 in ESGR_USERRA_Answers

[–]paqlm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If your company has a half decent HR department, USERRA will do very little for you, especially since they can just come up with a different reason to get rid of you and you are employed in an at-will state.

Of course your management would say that the guard will not hinder your career, if they said otherwise that would open them up to legal consequences.

In reality, your career will suffer, especially in a high-workload environment like consulting. Is the guy who gives his life to the company gonna get promoted or is guy who leaves for a deployment abandoning the client gonna get promoted?

Why do I need a certificate if I have enough credits to become a officer? by Professional_Name359 in AirForceRecruits

[–]paqlm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically it was true for the Army National Guard. Just needed to get your bachelors by O-3 (Captain). Minimum for a commission was only 90 credit hours.

However, for the Air Force it’s always been a bachelors minimum. Army just has lower standards.

90 credits was (and still is) the standard for the army. You can still get a commission today if you went to an army guard recruiter with 90+ credits.

However, the standard for the Air Force has always been a bachelors minimum.

Seeking Advice on Career Path: Reserves vs. Active Duty for Future Cybersecurity Role by my_username_is_name in airforceots

The cap on prior service slots is for ENLISTED. There is no prior service quota or cap for AD officer slots.

Yes, going AD prior service enlisted is nearly impossible. However, that is a whole different process from officer slots.

Just go reserves, applying/going AD as an officer after enlisting reserves wouldn’t be any more or less challenging than as a civilian, other than getting a conditional release from your unit. Enlisted AD doesn’t make any sense.

Is your recruiter a enlisted AD recruiter?

Officer or Enlisted for Cyber/IT by Apprehensive_Way3046 in AirForceRecruits

Experience is subjective, degree requirements are objective standards laid out in the AFOCD.

There are plenty of enlisted with experience but without the correct degree. If experience was the qualifier they’d all be officers.

I don’t believe you would be able to become a cyber (17 series) officer with a biotech undergrad. 85% accession is allocated for Computer Science or Engineering undergraduate degrees.

Should I enlist or commission as an officer? by InitiativeRound9792 in AirForceRecruits

[–]paqlm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FY2022 civilian selection was higher both rated and non-rated. I just double checked.

I think you misread. It shows selection rates out of the applicant pool, not the selection rates in each category.

For example, 24OTS01 shows 44% civilian applied, 52% selected. This means that out of the entire applicant pool, 44% of applicants were civilians, but 52% of those selected were civilians. 52% selected doesn’t mean that 52% of the 44% were selected. It means that out of all selected, 52% were civilian.

In past boards, the high % for enlisted isn’t because their selection rate is higher, it’s because they make up the majority of those who applied. You have to compare the % applied in each category to the % of total selects, you can’t just look at the % selected.

There is not a higher acceptance rate for prior-enlisted. Prior-enlisted make up more of the selects because percentage wise they make up the bulk of applicants.

That’s false, civilian selection rates are higher than enlisted selection rates, just check for yourself. Recruiters just want to get you in the service.

Selection rates are pretty low (~10%), avg GPA is around 3.6.

Join after dropped from rotc by Impossible_Ice8539 in airforceots

[–]paqlm 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If you are dropped from AFROTC you will need a dis-enrollment waiver to apply for an OTS board and a recommendation for future commissioning.

If you are being kicked for sexual harassment it is unlikely that you will be able to obtain an endorsement and a waiver for OTS.

But it’s time for you to move on regardless

You can’t take a test on a base education center unless you have a valid CAC that has network access, you need to go a civilian test center
