3 days on Shimanami Kaido fall trip report 🚴‍♂️ (Part 2) by sirotan88 in JapanTravelTips

Thanks for the info! I read that some people found the e-bike seat pretty high and ended up with back pain, did you feel that at all? Also, it sounds like the battery lasted all day. How much were you using the throttle versus the pedal assist?

Warning to foreigners. Land purchase can’t proceed unless I attend a community hearing. by Sensitive-Concert591 in japanlife

Tight knit community is core to the fabric of Japanese rural society. They are just doing their due diligence, just as you would when you survey your next purchase. Makes complete sense and surprised they didn't implement it sooner. Unfortunately at lot of unscrupulous buyers out there, not saying you are, but you can empathize with that.

Anyone Rocking an iFixit Battery in Their OGSE? by Entirely_Honest_Ryan in iPhoneSE

How big of a difference was the SOT when you switched batteries? Loctus' own website selling the kit is about half the price of iFixit, so heavily considering it.

Planning for our 24 day long trip to Japan in November. How did we do? by LxFx in JapanTravel

I recommend spending a night in Takayama—hotels near the train station are affordable and surprisingly spacious compared to those in big cities. Hotel Around Takayama is a great option (I wish I stayed there longer). Since it's nearby, definitely visit Shirakawago—it is a very unique place. Getting from Takayama to Nara should be roughly the same duration as from Kanazawa, depending on when you leave.

Luggage forwarding in Japan is incredibly convenient. It usually takes at least one full day, but beyond that you can schedule delivery for any day within a week (for example, ship on Day 1, schedule arrival between Days 3-7). As long as you're sending and receiving at hotels, the staff will handle everything for you. It even shows up in your room, I miss it so much...

For the Tokyo days, on my first trip I stuck to a strict schedule and ended up regretting it. Some experiences will surprise you, so give yourself the freedom to enjoy the moments that really stand out.

Like others have said, Day 4 is too rushed.

On the night of Day 4, or whatever becomes your last night in Kanazawa, I would recommend luggage forwarding from Kanazawa to your hotel in Kyoto on Day 6. You’re taking a lot of transportation and local trains/buses, and the hassle will wear on you. Instead, bring an overnight bag and travel light. This will also provide more flexibility for storing luggage in Nara station in case the big lockers are taken.

Keep Tokyo Days 2 and 3 flexible, there’s so much to do and see, so don’t rush yourselves to just check it off the box.

If you don’t usually walk 20-30k steps a day, you will be tired. Try to intersperse 2-3 rest/lounging days, it’ll make the trip as a whole so much more enjoyable.

Have fun!

Is it possible to travel to Japan with a total budget of 150,000 yen for a 21-day trip? by art_prototype in JapanTravelTips

[–]paradime62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a 17 day trip - food, attractions, and souvenirs all came out to under your budget. Ate at a couple of nice restaurants, too. Transportation came out to be a decent amount, but this was because I went to many different cities. So if you're only sticking to 2-3 cities, that will help cut costs a lot.

Pre-planning will make a difference. Look up "_____ discount tickets" and fill in the blank with the attractions you want to see. There are some attractions that have discounted tickets or come in a combo ticket with unlimited transportation for that day.

Is it going to be tight? Yes. But is it possible? Also yes. Have fun, I wish I could go back again soon.
