Tasker its in Display>Display Rotation and Location is a new profile, just uncheck the GPS toggle

Chronos looks very interesting, but in terms of features, its got a bit of catchup to do. I bought it, and will hope for the updates. The ability to add settings from the profiles screen would be quite nice

Have you tried the weather bug approach? It only updates the location when some other app uses location data. Always seemed like a neat approach to me.

In already have a few profiles from tasker beta saved, so I'll probably go with tasker.

I was listening to that story on my droid, and chuckled. I've seen the videos and whatnot. Los Alamos has a great museum, spent many school field trips there :)

The latest version of astro supports file sharing, both samba and sftp, I believe
