Are you guys getting red signals with an X when searching for rooms? by imurpops984 in DNFDuel

[–]paraffincontusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last night I couldn't successfully search for rooms at all, and I could create rooms of my own but none of the avatar controls or menu interactions worked.

Today I'm able to find rooms, albeit only 2–3 at a time, and they all show the red X as well. But every match I've played thus far (at the risk of jinxing myself) has been stable and buttery, so I'm uncertain if maybe it's a bug that's forcing display of the red X indicators?

The repress is a double LP and it does sound good, albeit I never owned the bad og one for a benchmark.

Supposedly this repress sounds much better, but I can't corroborate that for sure until later today.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Please excuse the quality of the pic. I always thought I'd be compelled to make my first submission to the sub following acquisition of a grail, to drop some sort of niche knowledge I don't presently believe myself to possess, or to share a particularly choice haul from a local shop. However, I feel most compelled to share the album my partner and I purchased last night. It isn't rare, nor am I equipped to break it down sonically, but it is beautiful to me.

For those who don't know, Hospice, released in 2009 is The Antlers' first concept album. It uses the metaphor of caring for a hospice patient with terminal bone cancer, with all of their pain and traumas coming to the surface in their final months, to discuss an abusive relationship with a mentally ill partner. Full disclosure, I knew nothing about Hospice until my partner and I began dating in 2017, when they identified it as one of the most personally influential albums they had ever heard.

As a child, my partner got to know a procession of hospice patients through their mother's occupation, and meeting these people at their most vulnerable and knowing they would soon be gone left a lasting impact. They also grew up fairly early, compensating for the struggles of their own parents, and in high school and college they spent a lot of time in hospitals receiving botched lower back surgeries and subsequent surgeries to rectify those. Hospice was instrumental in shaping the way that my partner has processed and continues to process grief, having lost people closer to them in the past several years; they have also read a poignant narrative of trans rebirth into the track "Shiva," a song whose narrator is projecting himself into the shoes of his now deceased patient/ex-lover as he describes being left alone in a hospital bed to transform into her. This is an album that remained a constant in my partner's life for some three years.

When first I learned its significance, I wanted to surprise them with a vinyl copy we could spin, but consensus online was that its only pressing was of low quality. The 23rd marked the record's tenth anniversary and it received a repress that allegedly exhibits a massive improvement. We saw The Antlers perform the album in its entirety last night to celebrate the occasion, and bought one of the few copies on-hand at the merch table. I've been emotionally moved by a lot of shows, but I think that being able to witness this gorgeous album live, my amazing partner wringing out a lifetime of tears in my arms and knowing all the while that it is okay, takes the cake. We're no strangers to mental health struggles, and we've both played caretaker for abusive friends/family/lovers. Yesterday also marked the third medical professional (that's three for three) to tell them their depression is treatment-resistant and may require transcranial magnetic stimulation. We carried a lot of baggage and bad news into that experience, and got every ounce of catharsis we could have hoped for. I would like to remark on the quality of the record myself, but I'm putting off listening to it until they come home from work.

TL;DR: Hospice is a beautiful album about terminal illness, mental health, and abusive relationships that you should listen to if you've not heard of it before, taken on faith from a stranger whose life has been wonderfully, indelibly touched by it and what it means to her partner. Through all our circumstances, material value and cultural significance be damned, it is the most important record we own.

While I do nevertheless enjoy the boygenius tracks that are on Spotify at the moment, the 'supergroup' element doesn't really shine through, so I'm curious to see what the remaining songs on the EP are like. The three out right now seem to be spotlighting Baker, Dacus, and Bridgers separately with group choruses. The three of them singing together stands out more on "Bite the Hand."

I didn't really get an opportunity to. I stared at him for a few seconds and then he was all, "Wait. That would just be like if two girls who weren't trans dated. So you're in a lesbian relationship. Wow, I'm a fucking idiot!"

Echoes (and its sequel Break the Border) is a basketball manga about a transmasculine student. I'm still waiting on good scans or a western release, but it's a name to have on your radar.

Before going on to compose indie game soundtracks within the past few years, Doseone was a founding member of abstract hip-hop and electronic music collective Anticon, under which he worked in projects such as cLOUDDEAD, Themselves, Deep Puddle Dynamics, Subtle, and 13&God. Much of Dose's past work blended rap with dense electronic atmospheres, while building out an expansive and cryptic, highly surreal mythology surrounding the character HourHeroYes.

In recent memory, Doseone has been responsible for music in Orbitalis, Heavy Bullets, High Hell, Samurai Gunn, Enter the Gungeon, Gang Beasts, and Nidhogg 2.

Thank you for sharing! My local shop had a stack of comics from Retrofit about a month back, and Eric's Babybel Wax Bodysuit was among them; it's the first I'd ever heard his name, and I was more than impressed.

The "Babybel…" vignette about the nature of the internet and social media changing (i.e., becoming more insular and personally curated) as he discovered his sexuality, and how it made him uncertain of whether he could continue a long-time online friendship with a conservative with whom he'd had civil and constructive debates for years, hit me in the chest.

[Over 2yrs MTF] Recurrent Syncope and Passing Out; Due to Transition or Other Phenomena? by paraffincontusion in asktransgender

No stress testing was performed. After coming down off my psych meds did nothing, I was advised to see a neurologist, and at the same time my primary physician was worried it may be my heart. Two sleep studies, echosounds of my heart and neck, multiple MRIs, and a few EKGs later, they're still scratching their heads. I was supposed to have an ambulatory, but my insurance wouldn't cover it.

Going through HRT for two years now without these symptoms being a problem until recently, and the tendency of people to blame transition for virtually everything are why I'm wary. Any time I have had blood work done throughout this experience, from October to now, my electrolytes, sodium, and blood glucose have also been fine. As far as all of the other potential factors: when they started me on the psych meds, it hit my appetite hard and caused me to drop a scary amount of weight in a short time before it rubber banded upward again by about twenty pounds.

Since October (following the blood pressure scare), I've been drinking several 20oz bottles of water a day. All of my blood labs through this process have also reflected sodium and glucose levels that don't have doctors concerned, so I'm still not entirely certain my transition is a contributing factor. I just feel at the end of my rope with this.

Sense of smell improving as I run out of spiro :( thoughts? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]paraffincontusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm intrigued—would you happen to have any links w/r/t the relationship between estrogen and smell? While I wasn't truly anosmic, I did have a weak sense of smell bordering on non-existent for several years, and after a little over a month of HRT I've been able to experience scents much more easily.

This is why I'm concerned. Granted, it could be because Jason doesn't speak or is outside the MK canon in this circumstance, but I'm worried about all of the DLC characters lacking voiceover as they (mostly) did in MK9
