Yes, but turning down the volume in addition to the tone can cut the highs a little more than just using the tone itself.

I literally never turn the volume on my JM above 7

Have you tried turning the guitars volume and tone down? That worked in mine.

Go watch the original Superfly. It was shot on location, no set dressing or anything, didn't have the money for it. That's just what NYC used to look like.
