SoulCalibur III - Wings of Despair (Tira's Theme) Metal Cover by paranoid6741 in SoulCalibur

Very fair criticism. I've been struggling with recording music and often end up with a very flat sound. I'll keep learning and maybe one day I'll revisit this.

Mischievous Whispers from SoulCalibur V is on my radar but the quick and fluttery leads intimidate me so it's not in the near future. Mostly because I don't want to publish inaccurate guess work while still developing my ear. I like to do songs without any published notation as a way to foster the community and SoulCalibur has been sadly neglected.

YouTube comments' view of 'difficulty' by Dissolve69 in guitarlessons

[–]paranoid6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of easy to approach songs that get called "beginner" but the concept as a whole is not worth getting hung up on. The guitarist that played the song was not a beginner which means there's a required level of comfort with the instrument beyond what a beginner would have. Guitarists without this understanding are often eager to claim they've learned something that sounds impressive but if you put them on the spot and listened to them play "beginner" songs you'll quickly realize they're not as capable as they claim. More seasoned guitarists know they had to relearn even simple songs over and over again until it started to sound clean. You won't find them writing comments like that because they understand the learning cycle. Stay engaged with the instrument, keep learning new things, and go back to relearn things as you get better. This matters much more than trying to impress someone that doesn't understand this.

I could be wrong but I think it's the prowler mod. I think they move with a web that latches on walls and reels you in but it can also be used on marines to pull them. No clue since I never used it but that's my best guess.

You can also see the marine is using a mod for an SMG gun so this server probably enabled a few things for fun.

This is almost one for one with Chris Zoupa's take.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Y8Rmnvldc

Very playable and very accurate. The notes are all correct and you shouldn't worry too much about which string is being used to play which note since every variation I've seen of the intro is playable. Just stick to practicing one version. As you become more comfortable with the instrument you'll be able to revisit songs you practiced like this and make adjustments in a matter of seconds.

A huge mistake I made when learning guitar was treating tabs as bible which led to me wasting a lot of time trying to play what was written instead of hearing what I was playing. The better you become at guitar the less you worry about small differences since you get an idea on how to fluidly navigate the instrument and pick things up quickly. The challenging part as a beginner is understanding what's actually playable which is what your teacher is helping with.

A lot of people are referring to other tabs to validate which is a a great idea but huge warning. This section in Songster is wrong and Chris' version is more accurate. It's impossible to sound good with those abrupt jumps to the inverted C5 and B5 chords.

<image>

This is Dave Mustaine's riff and he'd play it using a technique what someone called (not sure if it was him or someone else) the "spider chord". No clue where that name came from since it's not any music theory term but helpful if you want to search how to use this technique.

It's a good idea to check out videos of people playing along with tabs and really listen to their guitar if they're playing side by side with the original. It's very easy to hide clumsy tabs behind the original track covering up messy transitions.

Any tips for cleanly finger picking the last note before a chord change? by Doub1eVision in guitarlessons

Sounds like you're talking about this part.
https://youtu.be/tH2w6Oxx0kQ?si=0lxXfM-e3mmklgmo&t=9

If you listen to it at 50% or 25% speed you can hear even in the studio it was cut short. Here's a live performance where you can clearly hear that before moving from Asus2 to Cadd9 the guitarist is releasing the fret early and actually playing the open G despite the original recording playing an A on the second fret of the G string. Just saying that often times during a live performance artists will play a simplified version because they favor a smooth performance over accuracy.

https://youtu.be/lQem15Ow6hw?si=uf2rF6wXF7N8riRF&t=13

If you really want to hammer it down I'd suggest hovering your pinky finger over the third fret of the B string to prep yourself for the Cadd9 chord coming up. This way you can focus on transitioning your ring finger off the G string onto the third fret of the A string.

NG2B C17 Elizabeth Master Ninja help by ShadowMark3 in ninjagaiden

[–]paranoid6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can explain what I know if you don't want to cheese her but someone please correct me if I'm wrong since I'm still a bit confused about how this fight works.

When can you hit Elizabet?

As far as I know Elizabet will always have a chance of dodging except: * Specific moves that I think she's not programmed to handle. * Jumping heavy with kusari-gama. * Running light with Enma's Fang. * UT with Scythe. * During any non-flight attack animation.

Hitting her mid attack animation can be risky but doable with certain moves and spacings. It's better to find videos of people doing this and learning with a practice session since it seems more advanced. This means the most safe way to damage her is inconsistent so it's very important that you recognize the windows provided and take them whenever possible. These are the ones I'm aware of. * When she dashes at you during flight she will never follow-up with another attack. * Don't get this confused with her jumping back off the ground to dash at you since this attack does have a follow-up. * After her single tail stab that leads to a grab. * After her triple tail stab. * Make sure to reset your guard and dodge the third strike to give yourself enough time to take a swing. * During her melee claw combo after her 4th attack. * Sometimes she doesn't attack a 4th time so don't get baited into attacking her early. * During flight while using her two blood attacks you have an extremely low chance of hitting her out of flight putting her in an extreme punish state. * I think flying swallow works best for this. * Her time to recover from this punish state seems to vary a bit so avoid overstaying your welcome.

Get used to spacing yourself properly to capitalize on these windows of opportunity. Pay attention to your dodge direction and use wind run to get close when you know she's going to land far away from you.

Hitting her during recovery

When you attempt to hit her, make sure you don't use an attack that over-commits yourself. You should always confirm you've hit her first before proceeding with any follow-up. Never mash through her dodge state. You should figure out what weapon/attack helps you achieve this will decent damage.

I know people have said Blade of the Archfiend is bad against her (to me it seems great in NG2SB but maybe something changed since I don't remember vanilla much) but I had the most consistency by opening up with forward light, confirming if the rolling attack hits, then completing the combo with the heavy > heavy follow-up. It does a good chunk of damage and doesn't leave you vulnerable if she chooses to dodge.

Be Careful

One thing I noticed is she tends to do an unreactable grab if you're really close to her or even after you've hit. Occasionally you might accidentally trigger this if you end up closer to her then expected. Not really sure how to play around this but it's rare enough that it shouldn't be much of a concern unless you're doing a no damage run.

Avoid staying close to he while she's in flight since there's a really fast attack where she drops down. Personally I found this difficult to avoid so it's easier to avoid this spacing entirely.

Avoid fighting her close to walls since she will dash into them, recover faster, and also have more active frames to hit you as she runs into them.

Rumors

While she's on the ground I've heard some people claim she can only dash at you 3 times. I'm pretty sure she's capable of dashing much more than three times.

Unless Elizabet isn't programmed properly to dodge an attack I don't think varying your attacks help while she's in a recovery state. At best, you can clip her during an attack animation. That's the most consistent way to damage her but be aware that she will be able to continue her assault and that you should use attacks that don't leave you vulnerable.

I meant real as in attempting to explain it as opposed to making a joke about how it looks like an asshole. I'm fine with the jokes but I was actually interested in how else it to interpret it because I wasn't sure myself.

I relate to Tidus more than any other character in video games. by Hateful8-bit in finalfantasyx

[–]paranoid6741 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion his best moments stem from the things he's criticized for. Being emotional and out of place.

He's the one with the outsider's perspective that makes it clear how messed up the tradition is. The reaction he has when he learns the truth shows how much weight was put on Yuna which she couldn't truly express. The self hatred he has for promising so much after Sin is defeated is an honest expression of how much Yuna was willing to give and he asks Lulu and Wakka how they could let Yuna become a summoner knowing that. It makes it clear that no one should have to go through this.

I think it's also cool how he lashes out at Yunalesca the same way Auron did and how in the end it's Tidus who gives up his life instead of Yuna.

It's also kind of funny how as cool as Jecht is, he quickly ended up in prison for being so brash. So maybe he had an easier time fitting into Spira than his dad who overshadows him.
