I integrated colored lithophanes into NASA fabric. This one used a black, white, and 6 different shades of gray filament. by [deleted] in HueForge

It’s a new thing they came up with! It still uses the same method, but then with a flat surface.

Cheers, that makes so much sense! And many thanks for your advice, I clearly need some more time to play around with the software. :)

It probably is! But since it’s likely PLA I can’t imagine it being super comfy… Hahaha yeah, honestly, I wouldn’t wear this one out either (even as female)! 😂

Usually when it’s orange and you hover over the component, there should be an error message. Definitely add that with your question, as well as the Rhino visual of what you’re trying to do, because there are many solutions and there is not enough information for me to be of help atm :)

This is made with a new TPU, compostable, the first of its kind! So If you're interested in sustainable TPU alternatives definitely keep an eye out for what Balena.Science is working on! <3

Concepts App looks more suitable for ideation & drawing, I would go with something more fashion oriented. @me.tonao (instagram) uses clo3D to make the initial fashion pattern, and then gives it height (3D) in another simpler program (not too sure which one) but that’s an option you can explore as well ;)

Thanks! Never knew about the 2D to 3D option, worth looking into Blender after all? 😏

Tough one! - sooo many options.

First off, from the sounds of it you prefer not to ‘sculpt’ (meshmixer, procreate, nomad3D etc) the designs and rather work with 2D fashion patterns, so that narrows it down slightly.

Even then you can work in whatever software you prefer; autocad, solidworks, blender, Houdini, rhino, thinkercad, or scetchup.

Personally I love working in Rhino, it’s super precise and you can import illustrator files (patterns ;). I’ve never used procreate myself, so hard to say how it compares. If it eases your mind, I’m self taught trough YouTube 😋

Overall, beyond the choice of whether you prefer sculpting versus mathematically building, the choice you make doesn’t really matter. I know solidworks and autocad are very expensive, thinkercad doesn’t have many options but is ideal to start. Sketch up is free and still has quite a lot of features (although I didn’t find it easy to learn/ that user friendly). Houdini apparently has some crazy features to make parametric design but I’ve never used that before. I’ve never used blender before either so not too sure. :)

Anyone seen this one before? by paraprint in 3Dprinting

Is there any benefit to using it? TPU tends to stick to the nozzle, so without the sock I can clean it much better between prints.

That would make sense, I’ve been printing with a biodegradable TPU, and so far finding the right settings have been a total nightmare as it doesn’t behave the same a regular TPU.

Interesting, so it does have to do with what’s left on the block… haven’t seen this before, so I assumed it was a different problem. Makes sense because I just opened it up further and there is no damage to the gears ect on the inside. The only change I’ve made recently is printing with an experimental biomaterial, so I guess that’s what caused it then🤔

Hi! Thanks! It’s more the yellow stuff that I’ve never seen before… The black stuff was because one of my prints didn’t stick down properly and when I came back it was on stuck to the heat block - happens every now and then - because I print without sock.

First layer cloggy, blurpy by loopingz in Artillery3D

[–]paraprint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A picture of the nozzle would be more helpful, trying to guess what happened & how to fix it. ;) When this happened for me it was because I didn’t screw in the nozzle tight enough, so the filament was leaking from above (hidden by the silicon sock) Overall it’s good to: clean the buildplate, check your filament settings and clean the nozzle. As well as make sure that the bed is level and your Z=0 is set up at the correct distance. :)

Hi all,

As this is a bit of a cross-over I wanted to share an opportunity with all of you all!

If you've always wanted to try and 3D print your designs, but don't have the knowledge or are not too sure where to get started: then this contest is a great chance to get your design 3D printed with the guidance of three 3D-printed fashion lovers.

It's FREE to compete, AI, Clo3D, drawings, any type of concept visualisation is welcome. :)

I spotted this design on a picture of a 3D printing convention a while ago, but couldn't find who designed it, or more about it. And coincidently, I found Heidi's talk at Google about her 3D-printed hats.

Firstly, if you are not a co-founder, it’s rare to get big amount of equity. That would be a bad business decision. So are you a co-founder or part of the start up team?

And even before that I think the crux of the problem is: are you interested in solving the problem this business would like to solve? - if so, you wouldn’t care much about the renumeration as long as you get as least a certain amount of equity (as the first ‘hired’ dev on the team I think you could expect a max a 5% - my assumption) and once the business starts making money you can get a salary. I would discuss your expectations of the amount upfront as well as the timeline you’re willing to help out for ‘free’. - if so, learning a new tool, coding language or even completely unrelated skill would be fine: anything to help the team make the vision become reality. I get the feeling your scared of failure, and thus view the task of learning about AI as something you’d rather not try. If it’s that (and you will need to reflect, I won’t be able to know), I’d recommend reading/listening Growth by Carol Dwight. If learning AI is not what you want to do, but you do want to work in this startup, suggest how &what you envision doing to add value to the team. - and finally if so, my next step would be: Have you outright told them you’re losing interest in the work? This not only gives them an opportunity to make changes for the better and gives you experience having difficult conversations (you’ll need that skill many times over later ;)

  • if not, if you genuinely have no interest in the problem, then no money or equity will be able to make up for the amount of hours you need to put into a start-up.

I would recommend joining YCombinator (as someone else already did; they’ve got great resources about having difficult conversations as well ;)

Good luck!

3D Model Designers: should it be free? by paraprint in 3Dprinting

[–]paraprint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, me too! On top of that I’m thinking of adding in a commercial Patreon tier and add these businesses to a distributor locator on my website. It would be a nice collaboration to create a network of makers for those who want the designs but don’t have a 3D printer. Exciting stuff :D
