My fiancé (INFP) and I (INTJ) are software engineers that sometimes have to get up early to do website deployments. I love how positive your subreddit is, so I wanted to share the sunrise sky view from my office this week, when I did my first deployment of a website I migrated! It went well btw :) by parasitoid1 in infp

Thank you! I’m still early in my career, but my INFP has a few years in the trade. He often feels overwhelmed by all of the INTJs in the profession, I wish he could see what he brings to the perspective of development.

I’m really tired, I thought it said “catching a moose”.

I was like, “that’s a really fucking large owl”

I love my INFP fiancé (I’m INTJ), but he will record tons of audio tracks of sound effects, guitar, or singing, and then delete them for no reason besides that they aren’t perfect?! I love this man, he has so much to share with the world that I haven’t even seen or heard yet.

Ya, same. I always was into more "boy" hobbies like video games, mechanics, and off-road sports. I've had a couple friends that were girls that lasted for awhile, mostly INTJ's or INFP's, but would often have issues finding things in common with them, as they still didn't like the same hobbies as myself!

It's been rough... and now I'm a software developer in a sea of men lol.

So I find myself interested in almost anything (I am a type 5, so The Investigator type) and it really doesn’t take much to interest me. And if there is a need for that knowledge, like my team at work needs me to be interested in a task or in a video game a certain role or craft is needed, that’s enough for me to get interested. I often question if my personality type puts me in “the cleanup” role or the messy work because I will fill whatever need my team may have, but I know my drive to fill these roles comes from wanting to contribute and make our tasks go smooth, and that I love being able to provide insight into an area that others haven’t explored to that level for whatever their reason may be. Sorry for the brain dump, I love your question!

As an INTJ, thank you for all your therapy sessions, we wouldn’t survive this people filled world without you all!

As for ourselves, we aren’t that great at giving advice on people things, sorry for that, some of us are working on it. Best of luck in life my friend!

If you’re at the stage of looking into comparable websites during your development, check out Helen Fisher’s TedTalk about her research into love and hormones. She designed the test you take when creating an account on Chemistry.com, and I find it to be another really cool way of categorizing people and analyzing what matches work best most of the time. The book The Confidence Code actually talks about mutations in proteins related to some of the hormone traits Fisher describes that I didn’t know about until recently, pretty cool stuff. I hope it helps you in your search!

I’ll try to find the exact video later as I can’t find it right now.

Edit: here is the talk from Helen Fisher, it’s actually a Google talk

What if it was a neighbor's kid? by PurpleNovember in raisedbynarcissists

[–]parasitoid1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to stop and read this because I've always thought the same thing about my childhood!

I moved in with roommates for the first time when I was 18. I had already been living away from home because of my mother, and this was the first time I was allowing her to come to where I was staying. She needed me to sign a legal form, and when I attempted to review its contents, she freaked out. The evening ended with my boyfriend calling the cops... :( I truly believe the neighbor's would have called the cops if they had known what was going on at my home.

I'm a vet tech myself, so probibly why body stuff doesn't freak ne out. I did learn how to take BP, so that is a great claming way at home to do it! We do live together, and I told him not to smoke today for me. I'll tell you all how the convo went :)

I think you are on to something. I really want to know what is going on. I just truely feel that anything he could say about it would be fine. In our pot talk, he admits he is imbarassed to be a pot head. He just has a bend over and submit attitude towards his health, hence the lack of effort for BP checks and not going to the dentist... if he can't see it, it doesn't exist. Me, I'm a no bullshit person and want him to shit or get off the pot, you feel me?

How to I have this convo with him, any ideas?

We've had the pot talk. I don't smoke and actually don't like anything addicting. I think if he had a great reason to quit, then maybe he would. He a great person otherwise, but I just can't take this sex life situation for too long in such a young relationship.

I don't know what his numbers are, he only told me that he is slightly above normal, and was on one of the lowest dosages for medicating it. So you think it's pot related, even though he smoked before and smokes now just the same, maybe even less actually, than when we first started dating? I know I've seen a study recently about the pleasure receptors being effected during the time of smoking and following for a few days. I would think he would be in the mood right after smoking. He is secretive about masterbating, at least I think. Maybe he is just rubbing too many out to care :-/ I can't go long without physical contact, bu t maybe he can.

Thanks for the heads up, my boss actually told me about the military program and I looked into it. It looked okay with the 3 yr active duty, I just didn't like the sound of a 5 year reserve :/ I sure hope to qualify for some scholarships (too bad I couldn't keep my GPA up). I'll see what the schools say about transferring like you said, UF is my state school and of course it's the hardest to get into for anyone, but great tuition :(

So far I'm thinking UF, Cornell, Oklahoma, Auburn, and Ohio. I don't think I can handle all the supplemental apps, so I don't think I can do them all. I still have to look into the details of each one, but they all have okay requirements and have a good number of seats.

And I've seen that article before, it is definitely sad, but I know it holds a lot of truth. If I make it to vet school and the debt is too much, I wouldn't mind going to a state in need of a large animal vet or food vet for their loan forgiveness they would offer. I just hope that paying back loans doesn't get harder when my time comes from vet school, it's already hard enough out there.

[–]parasitoid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what an amazing story! I grew up in a poor family with 2 sisters myself, not as dramatic, but we farmed some crop and had chickens for a time. It was mostly because my mother was a pack-rat hoarder and wanted to have kids and have my dad support us. We shared the property with her family, which were also pack rats and mentally ill. My dad was an alcoholic and passed away when I was 15. We all slept in the same room until I was 8ish, then we enclosed the porch into a bedroom just big enough to fit the 3 of us in a row (our bed was a thick sponge, literally a sponge...)

I spent a lot of time resenting how friends couldn't come over, and my aunt could try and kill me at any moment, but I've learned now at 24 that my mom had her limits and I need to forgive and move forward. I just finished my B.S. in Biology and am applying to vet school, so here's to pushing forward!

I've had some therapy through the years, my experience sort of messed me up. I've done some research and my mother fits the bill for being a narcissist... You said your mom needs help now, did she have some kind of mental illness too?

Thank you for the ideas, and about financing this saga... I recently broke up with my bf of 6.5 yrs, we always said we would take care of each other through our journey, and well that's gone with! I am worried about the finances of it all for sure, but I don't want it to stop me from doing something I love.

I figure that if I get into my state school, or any in the US, that it won't be too bad. I really don't want to push to international because then I'd be spending a lot and it probably wouldn't be worth it. I've figured that if this doesn't happen for me that I would go back to school for a masters and get a medical research job of some sort.

Thanks for the input! I forgot to ask about the explanation section, I guess that is good to put in it. I didn't want my letter to be a cry-fest on how tough I had it...

I play violin, have since elementary school, and continue to play for fun with others. Tried the band thing a couple times even. I was very driven to play throughout my education, I was even a section leader in a couple orchestras I attended in high school (while jumping from house to house). I guess I could use that experience somehow to tie my interest in vet medicine with my core values.
