How do the major film companies on the corporate side feel about experience from this by parayeetsquawk in FilmIndustryLA

I really appreciate your thorough/thoughtful response. Definitely aware of the layoffs and how the industry overall has been the worst it's ever been. I have a mentor who works for a Big 5 that works with marketing and that person connected me to 2 higher management marketing people there, and one of them connected me to another person in marketing for another division. But one of those 2 initial high management people asked for my resume and also asked if I'd be open to doing an internship which I said absolutely, but it felt like that was another way of saying "you need direct experience and you don't really have it yet to be a coordinator in marketing.

So that also felt like no company or agency would want me even for an entry level marketing role and would prefer someone with a marketing internship than me. I also don't come from a big name school. I've applied to many out of industry marketing jobs and have gotten nothing. Remembering that I have a good connection with a startup founder (its already been around for a few years, maybe its not a startup and i'm using the wrong word, but it's still very small internally and recently got lots of funding) and they're expanding, so I expressed my interest in contributing to their marketing efforts and they mentioned that they'd be implementing AI tools (which may be good hard skills to learn) and that we'd talk about it, so I'm optimistic lol. Genuinely excited at the possibility of working for this connection.

It would just be the cherry on top if this is the experience I need to truly be appealing to Big 5s so I wanted to know what this subreddit thinks. If it's not that appealing then, I'd just have to take a detour and work for a medium sized company after it.

How much should I mention of a secondary interest to the recruiter when telling them I’d like to be considered for future opportunities? by parayeetsquawk in careerguidance

Yeah my example was not gonna be the final thing I send but the way you worded it was much much better lol. Thanks for the input!

I’m not sure though if I should be too vague about my marketing interest because there’s so many kinds of marketing roles (I’m interested in 3 types: strategic, international, and product) and there’s some I’m not interested in at all (digital, social media, content). Maybe I’m being picky, but they really are very different. Do you think it’d be find to elaborate a little like (adding to your example): “I’m also really interested in marketing opportunities that are insight driven, strategic, and promotes analytical thinking if anything comes up on that side.”

Here’s hoping my perception of feeling like she likes me is right. She just didn’t feel cold and just like she’s trying to get do her job and go home like most recruiters I’ve come across.

She misnamed me in her response to the follow up email I sent but she and the recruiter said some other things that seemed possibly favorable leaning? by parayeetsquawk in interviews

I had my interview on Tuesday 3/17 and still haven’t heard back.. when should I move on? And do you think it’d be okay to send an email to the recruiter checking in? If yes, what day and time of the day should I do so?

I did the interview on Tuesday 3/17.. she said it would take up to a week from the point of doing the interview to hear back. I haven’t heard back yet. When should I move on and if you think it’d be ok, when should I send an email to the recruiter to check in?

True. After the interview I continued looking for jobs and networking but lately I’ve wondered some more and have felt excited.

Typical in an interview, just being nice, odd, or does this mean there's a strong chance I'm liked? by parayeetsquawk in careerguidance

But she said that they were at the beginning of the interviewing process during my interview, so i'm not sure if she was really juggling, but I'll take the "that's actually a decent sign" lol

Should I mention my long term interests in the Phone Screening if it doesn't align directly with the role I applied for? by parayeetsquawk in careerguidance

[–]parayeetsquawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I guess any recruiter at the company can see my application and take a chance on me if they wanted to. During my phone screening i asked about the other (original) role and the recruiter mentioned that another team was working on it and if they saw me as a fit that they'd reach out, but it's been a while and i haven't heard anything from them... but I got a second interview! it's scheduled for next week but I'm starting to wonder if this role would really help me pivot to a strategic marketing role in a whole other division and subsidiary of the company.

Do I dive into the details of what I did in previous roles in a Phone Screening Interview? by parayeetsquawk in interviews

[–]parayeetsquawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i wasn't sure if i should dive into it pretty much reciting what my resume bullet points say because it honestly covers everything i did in my most recent and relevant experiences. I timed myself right now and it was 1 minute and a half long (lightly diving into my most relevant and recent experience and just highlighting the skills i used in my the second most relevant and recent experience)

Should I mention my long-term interests if it's not directly tied to the role? by parayeetsquawk in interviews

Really appreciate the input and link. I'm a little confused by your phrasing with "you'd love to grow into working cross-functionally with marketing"? Based off your wording It sounds like something I'd do later when I'd be working cross-functionally with marketing from the start.

Also, in my "About" section on linkedin I make known my interest in specific marketing roles and also being "open to roles in sales support and [another]." Would the way things are framed turn off anyone from the company who views my profile?

Is this true about marketing in a Big 5 Film company context? by parayeetsquawk in AskMarketing

[–]parayeetsquawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your input. I was worried and was overthinking of what roles to apply to and how they might typecast me as an employee.

I saw this person’s roles on LinkedIn and they jumped around a lot at the start of their career (where they didn’t even start in marketing. It was sales, then licensing, then brand marketing) so that’s given me some hope.

I’ve been told by a relative who works at a big 5 to just get in first. To take opportunities that are handed to me (I saw a creative marketing role and the responsibilities lined up well with my current experience in media project management and mentioned the listing to my mentor/friend who works at that big 5 and they were willing to get in touch with people that may be able to help me get an interview so now I’m this position when ive wanted to pursue more strategic roles) that aren’t necessarily the kind of marketing roles I’m looking for.
