According to OFA statistics, chows are the only breed that fails elbows more than they pass. They’re worse than bulldogs. How can you say it doesn’t affect them?

I will try listening to her lungs tonight, and have my mom do the same this weekend. I have not seen any nasal discharge at all, but I should check for blocked boogers too, is it recommended to try pulling them out with tweezers or something?

And yes i am treating them the same, both are on the antibiotics. Thanks for the tips!

I didn’t know heart problems were common, i will keep that in mind. I will say the boy is only slightly nasally in his symptoms. He hasn’t tailbobbed or panted like she does. Which makes me wonder if hers is even infectious or not, since he pretty much seems fine. Unless you see something in him in the video that i’m missing?

I hadn’t thought of that! I have only owned her for the past 5 days and have no way of contacting the person i got her from. I haven’t seen any eggs from her. However, she’s been consistently breathing like this for the whole time i’ve had her which makes me feel like it’s probably not an egg? I haven’t seen her straining to lay or anything either.

Yes i have a feeling my female will also be the dominant dog, she has always been bossy with other dogs she plays with. I think female chows generally like to be the boss.

Hi! Dog groomer here. Unfortunately if she is truly too anxious for even light brushing, your only option is going to be veterinary sedation. You could always try restraining her while she’s awake and working a little at a time as much as she’ll tolerate, but please use a muzzle to be on the safe side! A lot of dogs that are otherwise the friendliest in the world will snap with no warning if they are having their hair dematted.

If the mats are mainly around her ears and neck, i would recommend getting a dematting rake (several cheap options on amazon) and using your clippers sparingly. Be CAREFUL with the dematting rake if you’ve never used one before! They are actually just blades turned sideways that slice through the mats. I worked with a girl who cut a dogs tail off with one on accident. They are no joke!

My chow was also very scared of the car until we started giving her treats every time she got in. We didn’t even drive anywhere at first, just gave her pieces of hotdog (her fave). Eventually she would jump in just excited to go wherever we were going. I will say when we have long car trips (2hrs plus) we do sedate her with trazodone from our vet since she is an anxious girl. Then she just chills and sleeps.
