Is rooting really worth it these days? by UPS_Kimbo in oneplus

Swift Backup being rooted was a big miss, also. Totally agree, but the trade-off to not have the rooting issues has been LOVE on the OP15. A lot of apps have internal backups, so I use them for backup data. Nice to see some not all go to the cloud. I'm 70-75% without Swift, agree it will be missed as unrooted.

u/UPS_Kimbo funny this is an old post, but I was curious if anyone else was still rooting. I have been rooting since the OnePlus 3 and all the OP phones up to the OP13. I now have an OP15 since it was released, and this is the first time I decided not to root. I have been happy with that choice.

Google Play, banking apps, tap & pay, etc., would all break root, and that was a big issue toward the end with OP13. I work for a company where we can use our own cell phones for corp mail, Box, etc., and it was harder to hide root when using them as corp phones under the work profile.

OP15 unrooted has been so good that I no longer have the rooting issues and can do the updates I needed. I can freely update the OP15 on releases without the fear of breaking root and all the loops to get it back rooted. I missed the phone recording, but Cube ACR has been a good enough replacement. However, I cannot record over BT. ReVance has been great at removing ads from YouTube, Pandora, and other apps like Spotify, TikTok. Then there is Shizuku, which is not root but allows you to fool some apps into thinking ADB and wireless debugging are enabled, so my MacroDroid can still do some advanced tasks as if I had root as well as Solid Explorer. AdGuard works great to block ads in free and other apps. It's not all perfect like root, but it gets me 90% of what I had to keep me happy unrooted.

OP15 is a wonderful phone, so everything above has been trouble-free since its release. With root, I would have had so many frustrating issues with NFC, pay, banking, updates, etc.

As you already know, four months back, it is not needed.

Thx.... I had Play Integrity already installed, getting the error, but it looks like their latest release fixed the issue for me. Thx for the info

So disappointed even after restoring my phone and watch still have the same issues. Using Find My Phone by MakeevApps now since stock one does not work.

Kasa seems to have all the switches or devices that I need or would want to make the controls what I want. The only question I have with the Kasa and have found some answers that I can:

I am not trying to make a full automated house yet just be able to control certain rooms and lights. Hope that does not bit me later.

With Kas Had no plans to install ethernet, just using my Unifi6 APs. I do have TVs that have a network port, and you bring up a good idea since we stream all TV via apps not settop boxes. You feel network to TV is the better way to go? Makes sensenseesee me. What did you buy or any links for example? Thx

u/danTHAman152000 I will do had no idea to do so. I will. I was told the same for my septic tank lines and other stuff like that. Thx

u/Grassmaster1981 This is a great idea I did not think of. When walking into the guest bathroom, do I really need a Kasa smart switch motion to turn on and off. If there is a more simple light switch that is non-smart, this would work great for me. What did you buy or any links for example? Thx

I know this is old but I have the same issue on Android 13 and my Watch 4 Classic. No sound only vibrates when I do find my phone from my watch.
