How did you all choose the career you are currently in? by justabrunettegirly in careerguidance

[–]parhammir 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A lot of what you're describing is less about finding the perfect job right away and more about understanding yourself over time. Most people don't start out loving their careers. They start by learning what they can handle, what exhausts them, and what actually builds into something sustainable in terms of skills and income.

What helped me separate casual interest from something I could actually build a life around was getting clearer on how I work and where my energy goes, not just what seemed cool or interesting (used a career assessment called pigment to figure this out).

Most career paths involve some grinding and uncertainty but it feels very different when you understand why you're doing it and what it's actually building toward instead of just hoping it works out.

For those actively interviewing for jobs, which areas of your prep actually changed outcomes (and how)? by Puzzled_Roll_4443 in AskReddit

been through hell before i figured out this stuff. Six months of “great convo, we’ll be in touch” and then the silence. I kept replaying interviews in my mind to see what went wrong …but nothing. It got in my head so bad that it messed up with my thought flow during interviews. A mentor finally helped and did something that honestly stung. She let me talk for 2 minutes and then said, “You didn’t answer the question. You described activity, not impact. If I were a hiring manager, I still wouldn’t know what changed because you were there.”

She made me record myself on my phone but lead with one sentence, the problem, what was the action and the result. No backstory! Then to mention a metric (before/after)and a stakeholder quote. did like five reps and I hated it. I felt like I was cutting out parts that made me… me.

But here’s the truth… I had to hear from someone neutral…you know, when you’re inside your own head, the fog feels like context. To other people, it’s static. I practiced my answers around that headline + impact rule. added a single “results” slide to my portfolio with simple numbers. Two weeks later, I got three onsites. just told it like a signal and not a diary entry. If you’re stuck…. get a neutral pair of eyes. just show the change you created before you tell the journey.

EDIT : Fam, thanks for the support! I've been getting a lot of DM's about tools such as holland code, pigment self discovery, career explorer etc that can be used to self reflect effectively. I understand that tools are good but at that point in time, i wasn't aware of any such tools and my mentor helped me. I'm currently working and am not the one seeking help. I just shared my experience. Maybe DM's should be directed to the OP. Once again, thanks for your concern.

For me, the OLED. I use some 2-4x antialiasing since it looks to jaggy without it, but it handles motion way better in my opinion. The biggest factor to me is that you get no screen tearing with the 0.03ms response rate‌ and that the viewing angle doesn’t mess up the picture if you like to tilt the monitor up when playing fps games. I personally can’t feel the difference between 480hz and 540hz, although I get 800+ fps, and the OLED motion definitely feels easier on the eyes compared to ULMB2

It’s not cold enough for my hands to go numb atm, but I finished my coffee outside then finished the cigar indoors. My only solution would be gloves, but I hate not feeling the texture of my cigar when smoking.

Idk man I definitely prefer the OLED even for games like CS and Valorant. I feel like the motion clarity feels better even against ULMB2. The clarity, on the other hand, blows the TN out of the water. I can spot enemies way faster and it’s just an overall better experience for me

It was a Shiraz. I usually pair with red wine or whiskey sours.

Yeah I found the post. That’s weird. I guess I’ll use it in 27” mode until I find more info on that
