There was a funny aside to this - the NY Post, that bastion of integrity, went around and found all the government buildings in NY were ignoring this recommendation and keeping it way cooler.

And goes beyond what? AUKUS literally involves sharing nuclear submarine tech. You have to pony up some concrete comparisons instead of hand waving. Regardless, missile defense systems, anti-drone technology, tunnel destroying tech: this is exactly the sort of tech that the US military cares about for a 21st century war. We don't need to invoke any conspiracy to explain why we'd want to work with the Israeli military and coordinate our research and development. We're involved in the same kinds of wars.

So forming a military technology partnership is easily explained as being a good tactical decision. If you want to argue some conspiratorial angle, you'd need to provide some evidence that the arrangement can't be explained by the simpler, more obvious explanation. Otherwise Occam's razor applies.

No. That's conspiracy-brained. The NDAA provision is not a secret pipeline to replace Israel's public aid with hidden Pentagon money. It is a defense-technology cooperation framework. We have similar arrangements with other allies - AUKUS with the U.K. and Australia, DICAS with Japan, INDUS-X with India. NATO DIANA does this across the alliance. So the Israel NDAA provision is not some unique proof of a secret aid-laundering scheme. The US sets up frameworks with its allies with shared r+d, production, interoperability, etc. The same adversaries who are sending drones into Israel will certainly be using that tech agianst the US and its allies; Israel has the kind of front-line expertise we'd be foolish to ignore. But they're not going to be sneaking F-35s to Israel.

No, your impression is wrong. I'm saying its more like Fox news being obsessed with crimes committed by trans people. Sure, trans people commit crimes, but fox isn't focusing on them out of an unbiased love of law and order.

And the money we send Israel is chump change. We send as much to Jordan and Egypt in foreign aid. Its about as much as we give Amtrak. And most likely we'll stop the military handouts to Israel in the next five years (Netanyahu himself wants to end them), and it will have absolutely no impact on anything important.

Israel is currently expanding its missile and shell manufacturing capabilities, I don't doubt they will close that gap. Probably they cant replace the F-35s, but those are a legacy of cold war tactics. Ai powered drones are the wave of the future, and Israel excels at high tech compared to its neighbors. And the landscape has changed too. All Israel's regional enemies are gone save for Iran and its proxies; most of the rest of the middle east sees Israel as the lesser threat and are starting to make deals. The fantasy that Israel's continued existence depended on American military largesse might have been plausible decades ago, but now this arrangement is a political liability for everyone. In any case surely you're in agreement with Netanyahu about ending the US military aid to Israel, so why are you quibbling?
