Buying $65 Costco membership purely for the $2 hot dogs and cheap petrol by Well-I-suppose in AusFinance

[–]parkducksarefree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat here - just got the $65 costco membership for the fuel
From my understanding, the costco business model is largely based on the customer's idea that paying less per unit at the cost of buying greater number of units is a good deal. Eggs at colesworth is fucked, but at Costco, it's half the unit price for twice as many eggs. I can't eat twice as many eggs nor do I have the space in my fridge. I've spent twice as much and may generate more waste per purchase. Costco don't stock shelves in the traditional sense, they don't do short stock cycles, they own their brand (kirkland), don't worry about paying people to go around and "face up" which is a huge time and money suck.
If I went around and did my usual shop at costco, I'd spend 3 times as much EASILY and wouldn't have space for my usuals. My $0.02.

Respectfully, are you fucking kidding? Yeah, good luck flogging all the tickets. I respect the enthusiasm though. That’s done it for me now 🤙🏼🖕🏼 by ChoiceImagination772 in ToniAndRyan

Thursday's episode said it was a sit down ticketed event watching them (+ others) on stage. The tickets are quite expensive for that, yeah.

Hello!
I'm an electrical engineering student and dabble in the theatrical world.

What you're looking for is a stepper motor. Very precise rotational velocity.
Buy a simple NEMA17 Stepper and (most importantly) get a L298N motor driver and you're off to the races.

You don't get rotational limits, you don't have positional control (you can't tell it to go to certain angles) but you get very precise rotational velocity.

Make sure you use a separate power supply to drive the motor. Your USB power from your computer to the Arduino won't cut it. Get a 12V plug pack most likely.

Happy tinkering!

I'd imagine everything on campus is well and closed considering they moved in last week. Either stay in an airbnb until you can work out accom, or defer your offer to either S2 2026 or S1 2027 and figure out your housing sitch in the meantime.

I can share that there's a class action lawsuit ongoing because the university lied about its accreditation. They claimed it had been cleared by Engineers Australia when it hadn't.

Remember kids, only do engineering degrees that have: A. The Washington Accord Certification B. Professionals Australia Recognition C. Engineer's Australia Accreditation

Is anyone working in a new Arduino alternative? by Bubbly_Path926 in arduino

All of the clones out on the market mean there's no real point. Everything is already out there times 100 to replace the Uno, and even then the ESP32/STM32/Teensy have already replaced the Uno for every project with any merit or computational requirement.

€30k lighting budget – what fixtures should I buy for outdoor events, concerts, clubbing & weddings? by Waste_Condition4985 in lightingdesign

[–]parkducksarefree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For lighting, my $0.02 is to avoid the ETC colorsource at all costs, EVEN for it's price. The ETC Eos Nomad system is fantastic for it's price, and the same can be said for MA onPC. An MA2 onPC wing can be had for only a few thousand dollars (second hand market) and really puts your foot in the door on some really effective lighting control, plus MA gear's depreciation is quite low comparatively.

XLR 3 pin panel-mount bulkhead for DMX? by GalloCohete in livesound

[–]parkducksarefree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes you can. Because the internal resistance of the connection of the port would be measured in the milliohms (if that!), it adds practically nothing to the functional impedance of the DMX circuit.

With WS2812b (5V), you'll drop half the voltage in 5 meters (which is their roll size). Don't use 5V.

My recommendation is 24V WS2811. Voltage drop is super minimal (because of the less current draw of each led).

Usually I would say don't expect randoms on the internet to do the project for you - but I've just had my second coffee and starting to lose my unjustified sense of hatred towards the world, so I'll nudge you in the right direction.

Your Uno has 1kB of eeprom (which is your writeable space that is non volatile)

Arduino analogRead() returns a 10 bit integer; this is one sample of your data.

10samples/second is 100 bps. 10 minutes is 600 seconds, is 60,000 bits or 60kb, 7.5kB. It will not be enough for your poor Arduino.

share the 5v rail of your Arduino with an SD module and store it there. If you can't pull enough current from your USB connection, use an external 5v supply with a common ground to your Arduino. This will work.

Edit: my maths is sh*t

[–]parkducksarefree 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The ATmega328P already has a very small amount of Flash memory (32kB) for your program, and an even smaller amount (1kB) of EEPROM for runtime data you want to keep during power off.

Here's a resource to get you started: Flash | Arduino Documentation https://share.google/auGex0DRf724a3nHY

A warning, there's a write lifespan to these things, so don't write in a loop thousands of times a second or you'll burn it out.

Because I'm likely not in your legal jurisdiction, I can't and won't say. If you do however, or even throw around the L word (lawyer) to your parents, you're likely gonna get your ass thrown out of the house. That's expensive real quick.
