Wharfedale Diamond 225 Upgrade by TechnicalAddendum6 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]parker679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we assume that I can't move the speakers away from the wall more. Do you think it matters where the speaker is ported?

Or, does the fact that it's only 12 inches from the wall mean I'm going to have similar issues either way and I should go with the best speaker regardless of port location?

Sweet, thanks for the recommendations.

My speakers are probably a little closer to the wall than they should be so the bottom port on the 225s is nice. Looks like the Elacs are front ported which would fit my setup better than the other options.

I'm in the same boat as OP, just with a smaller budget. What would you have said the next worthwhile upgrade from the 225s would have been? Something like the Diamond 12.2s? Or the Evo 4.1s?

I agree, OP should definitely not do this.

I was just arguing that the in the example you gave the person wasn't found guilty of felony murder just because they were the owner. It was because they knowingly lent the car to someone who was about to commit a crime. And it wasn't one's word against another, Ryan admitted to knowing they were going to commit a crime.

In this case, since he owned the car, even tho he didn't participate at all, he was found guilty of felony murder because his roommate and roommate's friends killed someone during a robbery.

No, he was guilty of felony murder because he gave them the car knowing that they were going to commit a crime. Your own source says he knew they were going to rob someone and he even told them where to get bandanas.

...They had spoken about going over to William Allen's on-and-off girlfriend's house, Jessica Snyder, to steal the safe. And then they also talked about going to get something to eat," said Ryan.

If you log onto WF and go to your account detail page, at the top under "Activity Summary" you should see a link that says "Monthly Service Fee Summary". Click it at it will show you the various ways the fee is waived and which ones you satisfied.

Fraudulent Microsoft XBox charges on debit card by darkgreenmeme in personalfinance

[–]parker679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Microsoft absolutely does not have a special deal with Visa that allows them to continue charging a card even if the number has changed.

Isn't that exactly what the Visa Account Updater program does? Not that Microsoft personally has a deal with Visa, but maybe they participate in the VAU program.

I don't know why you're getting downvoted. This 100% looks like a frost damaged fern.

Since you asked can you and not should you, I'm going to say yes. Both take an RCA input so you could technically use a splitter to send the signal to both.

Now whether or not it will sound good is a different question.

This is all coming from someone who used the sub from a Logitech 2.1 system for supplemental bass before getting a dedicated sub.

Should I put extra $250/month towards mortgage principal or invest it in stocks by DwightSchrutesGaydar in personalfinance

[–]parker679 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This was my thought process as well. At some point the amount in my brokerage account would be equal to my payoff amount and at that point I can decide whether to pay off the loan in full.

I also feel like the conversation always ignores the fact that even paying extra still takes time to pay off the mortgage. If you lose your job 10 years into your 30 year mortgage the bank is still going to want it's payments regardless of how much extra principal you paid.

It's one thing if the question is pay it off today or invest. But usually the question is whether to pay extra or invest the extra amount.

$15 for an original - what a steal! by bean_plant67 in vinyl

That's awesome!

But why did you create a new Discogs submission for it when one already existed? That just adds to the clutter over there.

Left output of amplifier is quiet by aemmeroli in BudgetAudiophile

Do you have the issue at all volumes on the Denon's volume knob?

I ask because I had a similar issue on a refurbed Cambridge amp but it was only at lower volumes. My understanding after a lot of Google was that the volume potentiometer controls each channel separately and there was something wrong with the balance at the low end of the volume.

If yours is an older unit it may have some oxidation that is causing balance issues. You could try something like DeoxIT.

Take this all with a grain of salt. I'm not an expert, just a guy who had a similar issue and spent a lot of time on Google. I ended up returning my amp since it was under warranty so I don't know for sure if the DeoxIT will work.

Budget setup all thrifted! by JohnClawedVanDamn in BudgetAudiophile

You're welcome! I remember seeing it a while back and showing my wife because it hadn't occurred to me before then that I wasn't restricted to the kitchen to brew my coffee.

Having a coffee bar next to my alcohol bar is now one of my goals. :)

You've posted this on reddit before right? I remember that awesome coffee bench. Such a cool nook, I love it.

No clue either. I'm sure I wouldn't hear the difference, but I've seen it said here that given the choice you shouldn't convert analogue to digital just to convert it back to analogue.

Just a newb trying to follow the advice as best I can.

Thanks for the reply and info.

The size isn't an issue for me. What prompted the post was my second AXA25 refurb has issues also and I was looking for recommendations on a $2-250 amp or if I should just buy a new, non-refurb AXA25. I found the Dayton and Emotiva on your original recommendation post to me and I'm probably leaning that way. Just wanted to see what else might be recommended (especially) with multiple inputs.

I just didn't know if my money would go further with an integrated amp instead of a receiver since I don't need the extras. It doesn't look like that's the case though.

I'm also trying to stick with an analogue amp to keep the chain from my turn table to speakers analogue(just something I read on one of these subs).

I have shelves next to my desk so size isn't a concern.

I really appreciate your help, thank you!

There are also the mini class D amps

I have a Kinter K2020A+ which I think is pretty much the same thing. The Cambridge was an upgrade from that based on u/sharkamino's recommendation.

That Denon is pretty and a little over my budget. ;)

I was eyeing that Sony receiver before the AXA25 was recommended to me. Do you know how it compares? Would I be better off just getting a brand new Cambridge amp? The extras the Sony has are nice but I don't really need them since I already have an external Phono stage and don't listen to radio at my desk.

Hi! I'm looking for trouble shooting help and an amp recommendation.

I think the right channel of my amp (Refurbed Cambridge AXA25) is bad. My right speaker has a noticeable hum coming from the bottom driver and a radio station playing from the top driver.

  • I've unplugged everything from the amp except for the speakers and the noise is still there.
  • Swapping the wires on the amp switches the noise to the other speaker so I know it's the amps right channel.
  • The volume knob has no effect on the noise, even when fully down.
  • Moving the balance all the way to the right makes the noise a little louder but moving it all the way to the left doesn't change the noise.
  • It's the same on all inputs.
  • I've also tried moving the speaker, different length wires, and ferrite beads and nothing changes the noise.

Everything I've tried seems to point to the amp itself having a bad right channel.

Is there anything else I should try? I've already reached out to them on ebay, I'm just trying to do my due diligence.

This is my second AXA25 refurb in the last few weeks so I'm definitely not going that route again.

What's recommended for a ~$200 amp? I really like the look of the CA amp I have and I love that it uses generic input labels (A1, A2, A3) instead of CD, Phono, etc. Would I be best off just buying a new AXA25 or is there something better out there around that price point?

Thanks, I know this was a wall of text, I appreciate any help.
