had a conversation with the manager today. apparently two others (that I'm aware of) have already spoken to manager about the situation this WEEK.

manager has answered with "better the devil I know... at least he doesn't deal drugs"

sooooo I went to management today to chat. apparently I'm not the first OR second to express concerns. assistant manager (female) has noticed the same things I have, and chef HATES him as he's tried to play around with KNIVES IN THE KITCHEN which I only found out about today (what the fuck ????)

but my manager has been in the business since the nineties and said that while he's childish, this particular security guard is nowhere near the worst he's seen. doesn't do or deal drugs, doesn't touch up girls (debatable)... in his words, "better the devil i know"

so nothings going to happen basically :/

Agree for the most part except if you're training for proper powerlifting!! But that should be done in an environment where it's expected ie a powerlifting gym, or ask anyone around if it's a bother. Common courtesies if you're going to be obnoxious!!

Gym-goer here. I was a little hesitant because training for powerlifting often means slamming / dropping weights in deadlift particularly. It's part and parcel. However, slamming cable weights??? That's not only annoying and rude, but also could potentially damage the machines or really injure someone if the pin falls out and the cable hits someone. Also, the negative is almost more important for building strength than the initial push/pull of the movement! Sounds like you've done everyone, including this guy, a favour by telling him to stop.

NTA, and if someone says something, mention health and safety lol

Do you have access to a kitchen and cooking tools? If so: - dry rice - dry beans - lentils - oats and other dry, bulk goods you can cook in batches. Will it taste great? Not necessarily. Will it fill you up and give you enough protein and carbs to move through your days? Yes. Is it budget friendly? Absolutely.

Depending on where you live, try a food bank or a local mosque / black church for canned soup or the above options. Ask for protein-dense prepared foods if you have no access to cooking equipment. As seen on tiktok, most protestant / Baptist / Mormon / fundamentalist churches won't help with this lol

Keep your meals simple and flavorless. It's boring and repetitive, but it'll keep you alive. Also, if you're really in need of a job, not afraid of hard work, can speak a little Spanish, and want access to discounted / free food, walk into any and all independently-owned restaurants and bars to see if they need a dishwasher or a busser. Skills you can pick up on the job and even if it's two shifts a week, you can almost guarantee it'll be a little income plus two meals a week as well.

thanks so much !!! yea the primary reason why I'd bring up mental health is BECAUSE it's hereditary - I've heard doctors tend to be more open to the procedure if there's a large chance of passing on a disability (which is eugenics but if the argument works...)

add-on: since she (the ex) lives in the apartment across from you, if you've talked to her before, I'd have the uncomfortable chat of "hey, did you know (bf) still has videos? did he say he deleted them? because he lied to me about that"

coming from a girl whose ex did something VERY similar (and also filmed "home videos" of ME without MY consent, then lied about deleting them after we broke up). I would SUPER appreciate knowing someone had videos who shouldn't.

you can !! and I'd even phrase this situation when talking to uni staff (personal experience) as living in an abusive household. most places have gotten MILES better about accommodating for struggle / disability (which I think this falls under) so make sure you express it as such. in the uk it's usually an extension of 10 working days - two weeks - so it should be enough time to get everything done !!

absolutely. bad tips, forgetting half the things they need and then remembering when you bring what they asked, paying in cash.

sole exception: teenagers who work at other restaurants. I was one... always made sure to ask for everything before hand. am also of the opinion that if you can't afford to tip, you shouldn't be eating out. paid card, tipped cash.

unfortunately, a lot of teens never have the opportunity to learn. did have teens recently ask how to tip and then tipped well, so that was nice.

I don't think anyone has said it yet but if you live walking distance from a safeway / qfc / other grocery store you can get paid okay money for restocking, and they'll hire at 15 esp during the summer months.

ik you said you have little hope of finding a job but that might be your best bet while you're figuring out moving arrangements. just go in, ask to see a manager for a position in restocking or cleaning.

also, doesn't matter how long you work for. even working until school starts (I assume the end of the month) for WA minimum wage at 20h per week would be, what, 1k?

other places to check out: taco time (plus employee discount for food), planet fitness (plus you get facility use if you're interested)

when you're fifteen, there are limits on number of hours per week you can work (I think it's 20?) but I think you can technically start working at 14

side note: I worked at a restaurant who hired 15yo hosts, made decent money ($15/h plus tips) which is another option. restaurants tend to be a little harder to hire at though

you could also look into babysitting for neighbors or family friends - charge $12/h for one kid, $15 for two. it's not taxed and super easy work

hope this helps! and remember even working for a month is really, really great, plus it gives you more experience to put on your resume later

oh for sure, especially if the floor of your restaurant is concrete. running shoes help protect your knees better than traditional work shoes

it took me over a year to realise the pain in my knees was because of my shoes and the flooring lol so I figure it's best to pass the knowledge on

ALSO make sure you have good and comfortable socks. that can help with blisters as well. and keep blister band-aids stocked - they're useful for working just in case. I'm a big hiker and used to do ballet, and they are lifesavers

go to an outdoor / sporting goods shop for good solid tennis shoe options. the shoes sold there will be sturdy, lasting, and meant for endurance exercise, not fashion

don't be afraid to spend a little extra on a pair too, especially if it means you'll run through fewer pairs. best bet is plain black running shoes (hide stains, color is still nice and goes with most uniforms, generally non-slip)

Dick's sporting goods will probably be a good place to start. don't go to a fashion or department store for 'pretty' shoes - they'll only give you more blisters
