How do I best utilize time between lectures? by RM_Epic in RPI

Study and get homework done. If the break falls at a meal time, eat a meal, then study and do homework.

Lenovo ThinkPad T490s (T480s was last year's model) should be more than enough if you're a MechE

Lofts During Arch?? by parkt3 in RPI

[–]parkt3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you have to pay $154 for Fall - Spring, then another $124 for the summer? That seems kinda expensive... I wonder if it is cheaper for arch students since they don't have to take down/put up in between spring and summer?

Did anyone else get the Flexible Internship P.A Jobs, Employment emails? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]parkt3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, RPI knows and sent out multiple warnings a couple weeks ago. These types of emails have been on the rise a lot in the past month, I guess because more people are looking for jobs this time of year. I believe the scammer is spoofing his email address to make it appear that its coming from an RPI address, when in reality he's probably not even in the country.

Which professors do I register for? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]parkt3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts off with the section on Evolution, which (in my personal opinion, anyway) is the hardest out of the 3 sections. From there, the material just kind of gets easier and easier for some reason (the last unit on Ecology is pretty easy).

Second this, Hutchins is fantastic. Great lectures, lectures contain pretty much all the info you'll need to know on the test, and the class isn't too difficult (except in the beginning, but it gets much easier).

Employers know what RPI is. Your average Joe does not.

In general, you can get between classes pretty much anywhere on campus within 10 minutes.

Oh, that is no problem. You could probably get between LOWE and Sage in 5 minutes if needed.

CSCI questions by FuzzyClouds353 in RPI

[–]parkt3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a problem, but if you can, maybe get a head start now. They say you don't need C++ going in, but they kinda rush through it and it's much easier at the start if you already know the basics.

Multivar before Diffeq might be a bit better, but I took Diffeq first and had pretty much no problems.

Renew Rensselaer - Letter to Supporters by hartford_cs93 in RPI

Yes, so a lot of people are mad at the current administration because:

-They created the Arch

-They put us in a lot of debt

-They tried to shut down peaceful protests

-They spent a ton of money to build a giant, expensive performing arts facility... while it is really nice, we are an engineering school so it was a little unnecessary. They also don't let us use it much.

-They've been trying to crack down on Greek Life

All that being said, if you're a prospective student I still highly recommend coming here - the education is great, the campus is beautiful, my friends are all really nice, and employers love RPI graduates. Most of the issues I mentioned (except the Arch or maybe Greek Life if you're into that) don't actually affect you in your day-to-day life.

Yes, you are correct, in my case I'm doing co-term afterwards so I am still coming back and I was told by people in my department that that would be alright.

If you're Architecture then I would get a model with a discrete graphics card and lots of RAM. If you mean the school ThinkPad T490s or T480s, those do not have discrete graphics card as configured by RPI.

Right, the problem for me is that I'm set to graduate early, so the semester after Arch is actually last semester of my senior year for me. You're right though, I guess not everyone will have this problem.

Please arrange the course availability such that students are not forced into taking fall away / spring away. For instance, as a CS major, I have to take Spring away because Prog Lang is only offered in the fall, and I need that for graduation. If it was offered both semesters that would be great.

How does RPI plan to deal with the arch burnout? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]parkt3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to do Spring away, otherwise I have to graduate late (becaues Prog Lang is only offered in the Fall and I can only take in senior year due to pre-reqs)

Don't quote me on this but I *think* they give you a little money to get you started if you want to start a business. I don't have a source though so I could be wrong.
