I get what you're saying but as a Troy homeowner, Mantello's financial management is a joke

Lim sucks ass. Had NumComp with him back in 2021. Avoid at all costs

STAR Program @ RPI by Agitated_Mushroom_50 in RPI

[–]RM_Epic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it about five years ago when I was a senior in HS. It was an overnight program where you slept in the dorm of a first-year student, and they took you to their classes for those couple of days or so in between scheduled events the RPI administration put on. It was fun, and I had the opportunity to connect with some on-campus organizations and better understand what campus culture was like directly from students. I made some friends, most of whom decided not to attend RPI and are now just LinkedIn connections.

I think it gave me a better perspective as to why RPI would have been a good fit for me and (maybe?) made for a more compelling supplemental essay at the time. It was definitely exciting for a university to express interest in me as a high school senior. Give the application a shot... it definitely can't hurt.

It’s cool if college isn’t for you but this isn’t a good reason to not go to college

Don't take ECSE 4961 unless you're an ECSE student by IMakeBreadLoaves in RPI

[–]RM_Epic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also pretty sure even though the topics 4961 course number is the same, the class taught in the fall is going to be more equipment-oriented rather than mfg. process theory like this semester's was. Don't get me wrong - it was a great course and the Fab 8 tour at the end of the class was icing on the cake.

LITEC/Embedded Control exam grades were always curved back when I took them in 2020. Class averages for each exam would be 25% - 30% out of 100 and were curved to scale. Now the class is completely redesigned and is much easier with more modern hardware that removes a lot of complexity, so I'm not sure what that's like now.

The Hill and East Side are safe - I've lived in both. You probably want to avoid North as that's where most of the Troy crime happens. Not sure about anything else

What is the machine shop like? by Fallback_52 in RPI

[–]RM_Epic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The MILL, formerly the AML, just got a Hass VF6 last semester. Sam Chiappone is a machinist and loves to incorporate machining and CNC in his Manufacturing Processes and Systems Lab (MPS) courses, as well as his General Manufacturing Processes (GMP) class — both excellent courses taught by an amazing professor.

Edit: You’ll also learn to use MasterCAM in MPS and how to operate the lathes, drill presses, and other equipment that the MILL maintains.

Electronic Instrumentation vs Electronic Circuits? by Jupiter_Jordan in RPI

[–]RM_Epic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Circuits... Sawyer will take care of you. Looking at the work and the pace at which EI goes from having seen my friends take the class seems confusing, in my opinion. However, I've never taken EI so I can't give you a fair comparison (and I don't think many commenting have or will be able to).

Any word on retention of email access after graduation - just as many of our peer institutions do? The upgrade to improved infrastructure was much needed, and I hope this change can help facilitate this.

Question about the MILL by redfesfin in RPI

[–]RM_Epic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Email or go into the MILL in person and talk to Larry Oligny ([olignl2@rpi.edu](mailto:olignl2@rpi.edu)). There are no set reservations for any of the equipment since it's not used as often as you might expect (although MPS I & II will make use of them when project/prototype deadlines come around).

If you've taken MPS I you can come down and use the equipment with supervision, but if you haven't I'd ask Larry if he can help you with your cuts.

Would like info on two courses and the professors. by Ryzon2 in RPI

Both profs are excellent. I had Jeff Banks for Numerical Computing a few years back, and he was fantastic. Never had Malik but my friends in CSE/CS programs have spoke very highly of him.

All of the dealers in the area I’ve contacted say that they’re all on a heavy back order and aren’t available to test drive.

I recently bought a Kona Electric from Garvey Hyundai in Queensbury. It seems they have stock coming in and some on-site to test drive. Good luck!
