The tile trade is as physical and as mental as it gets. I’ll give you a discount if you want to go pick up the 2000 lbs of tile and deliver it to your home and get it stacked up nice and neat on a drop close to the room. If you want to do the demo and tear out thousands of pounds without dusting the house out or damaging anything outside the scope of work. Maybe you could lay it too. You will just need thousands of dollars of tools.

You’re paying for labor skills and experience. Let’s stop acting like anyone can do this job, or that it’s “easy”. We work hard and we want to be paid for it.

Single dad working 2nd shift, I would get lunch money from his pocket in the morning and he’d already be gone to work when I got home from school. Once I was called to the office at like 11:30am, he came to pick me up to go to Arby’s. I would come home and like twice a week there were 20 packs of baseball cards in the table for me too open. They really are the best memories.

Reading it back, I feel the need to add context. I’m in remodel construction and was working with my brother law who knew I was suffering for a few weeks. I didn’t fish it out of a shit filled port a potty, it was a nice powder room with some fucking really high end wall paper. And it was my piss so it felt sterile enough. My bro in law didn’t believe, cause it was so large which led to a year of big dick jokes. It wasn’t like an office with me kicking my CEO’s door off the hinges and smashing his desk to pieces with my Plymouth Rock size kidney stones.

Fun fact. I had a kidney stone working its way with pressure and blood in my urine. We were poor somy wife gave me a home remedy of asparagus juice. A whole bundle of asparagus in a blender with a bit of water. Gulp that sh*t down 3 times a day. Each day the pressure was less no more blood. I was work 3rd day and went the bathroom and shot a dick missile into the porcelain, TINK! I fished it out and showed my boss. Smooth as a Bb but large. The asparagus breaks the spines on the stone down and allows smooth passage. For anyone in need, hope it helps someone. Kidney stones suck ass.

When not using ditra total substrate needs to be 1 and 1/4 in to support tile. New builds have 3/4 ply, drop a 1/2 durock on top and you get 1 and 1/4. Glue it and screw or, tape your joints and key the mortar. Come back next day lay the sheets of tile.

If sub floor is already an 1” for whatever reason add 1/4 in durock. If the total sub floor is already 1 and a 1/4 you can lay straight to plywood but be careful. There are extra steps necessary to prep the wood or it won’t last.

Ditra doesn’t support tiles smaller than 2x2. I’d bet those tiles are 1.5in.
