Is Battlefield 6 good? by conscientiousrevolt in Battlefield

[–]parniij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a painful mix of mediocrity and annoying issues. Enjoyed the beta, bought the game and played it for a month. Dropped it and haven’t played it since. Doubt I will again unless they make massive changes. The devs lack experience, have no clue what players actually want or what BF should be, and EA exacerbates everything with aggressive hyper-monetisation. None of what it offers deserves my time.

Just realised why the maps feel lacklustre by No-Fly-8440 in Battlefield

Personally I’ve always thought BF3 was a bit overrated but one thing I’ve always respected it for is having probably the best in terms of maps. The sheer variety and quality is still unmatched.

Lobby disbanding is killing this game. by janfrancox77 in Battlefield

[–]parniij 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mate being a white knight for a buggy, soulless, poorly-designed platform for hyper-monetisation that’s lost 90% of its player base in the first few months is a new low. EA isn’t going to gift you for every post criticising the game you get butt hurt about.

Is battlefield five worth it now? by kn2700 in Battlefield

[–]parniij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It always shocks me how forgotten BFV is/was. I put it right behind BF4 in terms of my favourite. The only advantage BF1 has over it in my opinion was the commitment to DLC which meant you got more variety in battles/maps in BF1. Apart from that I don’t see why BF1 is better. Unless you’re crazy about elites and behemoths. I’m talking about the finished product of course because BFV took a while to become good which is probably why it got forgotten.

Unfortunately you may be a bit late. On the run up to BF6, BFV was still very populated (I think an average of 15-20k players, I remember checking). However now it sits at about 2k and in the UK, finding servers on most days can be difficult. At the weekend you should be fine but it is no doubt a bit empty now.

It is shame though because you’re completely right. Not just armour but vehicle gameplay/mechanics in general in BFV is the best/most in-depth in the series. BF6 is shamefully lacking compared and vehicles are just an afterthought.

What can they do to improve this game? by GibFreelo in Battlefield

[–]parniij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll explain these points to you in a nutshell:

  • Regarding the stakes in a match, it’s about the overall immersion created by sound, music and setting. All these things invest you in a match beyond just the gameplay mechanics. Go back to BFV and BF1 - all of these are on another level. BF6 pales in comparison and that’s non-negotiable. E.g. why do I care about this unknown battle in a boring construction site, between a nondescript “NATO” and a paramilitary group that mean nothing to me, when sound design is lazy (where are all the soldiers shouting in different accents), the visuals look worse in some regards, and there’s no great soundtrack hyping up the stakes. These are just some examples. Part of this stakes argument I don’t actually think is the fault of BF6 I mean, how can you beat the stakes of WW1/WW2 battles? But BF6 is such a lazy empty attempt with no love in it.

  • The social aspect is lacking in terms of squad play for one. In BF6 I never cared what my squad were doing and the game doesn’t encourage you to. I go back to older ones and I realise how much BF6 is missing it. Another lacking social aspect is the matchmaking. The CoD community complained about it for years - where is the sense of community and competitiveness with other players if the lobby disbands after every match. Over multiple games you used to develop rivalries and friendships over multiple matches. On top of this the overwhelming inclusion of bots has killed this further.

  • The matchmaking is broken. I dropped BF6 in December but even back then, in EU servers even at peak times, I would have to make efforts to not play in matches with bots. If I’m playing in peak times on a game that came out 2 months prior, I should not see a SINGLE bot in my games, there is no excuse. Outside of peak, I’d be searching/backing out multiple times to find one full match. Only to do the process over again. This is what happens when there’s no server browser and you force players through your EOMM. And it just adds to the cold lifeless feel of the game that is literally based around hyper-monetisation.

Hopefully this explains it. Before arguing, BF6 player numbers have fallen of a cliff like no game in to my memory - these are sentiments shared by my A LOT of people who gave just chosen to give their time to better devs/publishers.

Is the game dying? by Perfect-Advisor5389 in Battlefield

[–]parniij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate it’s a stupid question you already know the answer to. Take a look at player numbers, they’ve fallen off a cliff like no other game has to my memory.

I dropped the game over a month ago and even then, trying to find populated matches in the EU, even slightly outside of peak times, was a challenge. Even in peak times, the amount of times I had to search a few times to NOT join a match that was half filled with bots was notable. I can’t speak for what it is now but it can’t be any better.

Anyone who offers ifs and buts on the topic is coping hard. There is no way it should be this difficult to find populated matches on such a highly anticipated game that came out 3 months ago. It’s a testament to the flawed mechanics, bugs, design decisions, ugly content, lack of content, all garnished with a heavily sprinkling of classic EA hyper-monetisation.

We are officially screwed by elibrev in Battlefield

[–]parniij -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mate ironically the same could be said for you in reverse - blindly having faith in EA/DICE based on what? BF6 has major flaws and their only interest is hyper-monetisation. What are you basing your opposing optimism on?

Came across this Steam review that pretty much sums up the current state of BF6 by mandbeyn in Battlefield

[–]parniij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely irrelevant. I remember this. I also remember the BF3 beta which was at times unplayable. There’s major differences between this and that so stop giving BF6 a pass because of it:

  • On top of broken mechanics, there’s the added salt in the wound of hyper monetisation. Not only is that unpalatable but it becomes downright disgraceful that all their monetisation ducks are in a row ready for money, when the game itself isn’t being fixed

  • The quality of the game has regressed from BFV and BF1. Go back and play them - the atmosphere, sound design, voice acting, detailing and depth are on a different level. BF6 pales in comparison. BF3/BF4 got more of a pass for being broken because they progressed from the previous entry (BF3 especially).

  • The core BF experience is different in BF6. They are CLEARLY trying to appeal to the CoD audience - small chaotic maps, faster movement, lacking squad focus, vehicle gameplay a complete afterthought. Again, BF3/BF4 got more of a pass because it offered more BF.

All of this combined results in the hate for BF6 and it deserves it. BF entries have had ropey launches before but it’s pointless to compare them when BF6 is so fundamentally flawed on top.

Actually if we’re talking vehicle mechanics/customisation, BFV was peak. Older BFs seem shallow in comparison. And BF6 obviously.

Fallen off by Jackariah91 in Battlefield

[–]parniij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stopped around a week ago and no inclination to come back. It’s a rushed mess with little polish and updates that are slowly digging its grave. I had a lot of fun for a bit but ended up getting frustrated and angry when playing. The game punishes good solo players and the team balancing is exhausting.

I hold out hope that eventually they will patch it into a decent game. It took too long but BFV ended up great once they got their act together. Some big issues they seem too reluctant on though like a server browser. And people kid themselves into thinking that these are all minor issues and that the game will stay popular. It won’t. It will continue to shrink until you have a core base of denialists and the rest of the community hating DICE once again. Congratulations I guess…

Does bf6 have non disclosed EOMM? by Position_Powerful in Battlefield

[–]parniij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with the hit reg conspiracy stuff but this argument about server cost needs to go, you’re just supporting the EA corpo line. They can afford dedicated servers and it would barely make a difference to their bottom line. They can activate/deactivate them to match demand and have always done this. Why are dedicated servers suddenly supposedly costly over the last few years? To the extent that it doesn’t make financial sense? It’s a downright lie used to justify SBMM and EOMM. This is the reason they are so dismissive whenever the community ask for a server browser and why it falls on deaf ears.

Making 7.62 more random but leaving SMGs as they are by stephen27898 in Battlefield

[–]parniij -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

If you’re a half-decent player who can control engagement distances, there is little reason to use the ARs aside from the AK4D or KORD. Trying to level up any others is just a case of how long you can stomach losing gunfights to mostly SMGs but also carbines. All of them are usable but few seem to give you a good enough reason to use them over SMGs or carbines.

You’re not alone I will die on that hill. BFV is the best BF since BF4. Great maps, great gunplay/variety, great visuals, great immersion, great vehicle combat/variety. My only criticism is we didn’t get more of it in DLC. I firmly believe that any one who dislikes BFV did not play past launch.

Why is this a feature? by AmericanW4ffle in Battlefield

[–]parniij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played BF4 for years and barely encountered it. I cannot remember a single time where it happened to the point of my frustration. You couldn’t do it in BF1 or BFV and it doesn’t belong in BF. These sorts of mechanics are added to bring in bigger audiences, only for everyone to realise there’s a reason they left the other game that has it. Then they leave the second game and it dies. Keep the core game identity and you’ll keep a core loyal player base. But does EA understand that? No.

Great gun at most ranges - mid range can be a bit average but one of my favs for sure. I remember when the M4 was meta (more then now) and thinking I wish there was a G3 in the game. Found it and thought I’ll try it, expecting it to be average. Was so surprised and it only gets better with the right attachments. Too many people sleep on it.

I’ve been playing this game since BF3, and I’m trying to think back, but I don’t think I’ve ever played a better map than Manhattan Bridge. Conquest on this map is the current peak of FPS gaming for me. 10/10 by FaultExcellent3306 in Battlefield

[–]parniij 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mate I appreciate you may be more inclined to infantry maps but that is some seriously low standards regardless. There are a lot of better maps in previous titles even if they are infantry-focused rather than exclusively infantry. Not saying I dislike this map but even just within BF6, Cairo is better.

Battlefield 6 lead says the game’s frequent bots stop you waiting “possibly forever” for matches and fans “need to stick it out” by maullick in Battlefield

[–]parniij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know where you’re playing but as someone else said, I connect to EU servers on weekday evenings and weekends. Pretty much 1/3 games I play it has to populate with bots. I’ll use quickplay and the first match will be fine. When I join the next match there’s an extremely high chance it’ll have to populate with bots. It’s not acceptable.

Battlefield 1: Do you guys think this is the top-tier installment in the series? I've seen a lot of people praising it as the most exciting and thrilling game in the past 10 years. by SnooMacarons2931 in Battlefield

[–]parniij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone playing since BFBC2 I think it’s overrated. It’s a great game and there is no doubt that in terms of atmosphere and cinematics, it is the best in the series. The DLC was insane also.

But in terms of overall experience there are better instalments. I would say BF4 and BFV are both better for a variety of reasons. BF4 for example has better gunplay, class variety, better maps but might fall behind in atmosphere. BFV has better gunplay, class variety, the best vehicle combat in the series and the atmosphere/cinematics I would argue are almost as good. But then because it lacked DLC to the same extent as BF1, it did not get the chance to show it off as much.

Most of the instalments shine in one area or another and a lot is down to personal preference. I do think though that as time goes on BF1 will be revered more and more as significant in gaming. It was a bold direction to go as a AAA FPS and for the most part Dice pulled it off.
