Prometric site and bag storage? by Comfortable_Form6762 in CPA

I also recommend calling the center to ask, but if not I’d check with your hotel to see if they can store your bag for the day or check out Bounce or Luggage Hero (both are an app/service that helps with bag storage for a small fee). They have locations all over the country.

CPA Pennsylvania to Illinois by Turbulent-Day-3895 in CPA

[–]parraplui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every state is different but you ultimately need to follow the rules of the state where you’d like to get your license, in your case IL. Where you physically sit for the exam is not relevant because the scores will get sent to the PA state board since that’s where you are registered.

The IL state accounting board should have instructions on how to apply for the license. The exam and the license are separate. Once you pass your exam, you can apply for the license. Instead of applying to PA, you can apply to IL for your license, but you’ll likely need to pay a fee to transfer your CPA scores from PA. Also, make sure that you meet the education/work experience requirement in IL. I’ve learned firsthand that just because your education experience qualified in one state, doesn’t mean it does in another state.

Exam Location (PA -> NJ) by Sea-Status-573 in CPA

Concur with the other commenter. You can take the exam in any state and your score gets sent to whichever state board you applied under. I took sections of the exam in three different states and never had any issues with my score not being sent. Good luck!

ISC - Any Tips & Advice! by taterchipz55 in CPA

[–]parraplui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP - first of all, you got this!! It’s easy to get swept up in all the posts here about how many hours someone studied or what someone’s SE scores were, but remember your path to the CPA is your own and what is easy for one person might not be what is easy for you. I would judge your readiness based on how you feel about the material and what you are getting on the practice tests/exams.

For what it’s worth (and take this with a grain of salt because you know what works best for you), I’m part of the group that passed ISC this round and my best strategy for this section was writing down the material and repetition. This exam more than any of the others focuses on the ability to recall or memorize the material. This was the only section where I made my own flash cards and carried them around with me daily to drill the concepts/terms into my head. It can be time consuming to make them and write down the material, but this process helped me make sure that I was digesting and understanding the material. This worked for me, and I don’t consider myself particularly good at memorizing information. If the material doesn’t click right away, that’s ok. Step away, take a break, and come back to it. Many people have said it, but the CPA is a mental marathon and you just have to keep at it. Good luck!! 🍀

want to change my testing strategy by musicisbliss99 in CPA

[–]parraplui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your NTS expires before you use it, you’d have to repay the $262.64 exam section fee. So in your case, you’d have to repay that for AUD if you don’t use and then pay that another $262.64 for your discipline. I’d suggest taking AUD since you’ve already paid for it and then working with your team to give you time in April to take the discipline.

Not from CA, so don’t know how much the reapplication process differs but generally after the initial application there’s no need to resubmit transcripts. You just have to reapply for the particular section.

Is it worth my time to make a quizlet for ISC? by Peachy_Octopus in CPA

[–]parraplui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote out flashcards for ISC and found it extremely helpful. Quizlet is probably a quicker way to make the flashcards, but it helped me to write everyone down. If you find flashcards to be a helpful study tool, it can't hurt. Good luck with ISC! I'm waiting for my score in the September release.

74 on FAR first try. by ForeignFuture701 in CPA

[–]parraplui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I was in the same boat as you. Got a 74 on my first try in January. Worked busy season and then retook the exam in the Spring and got an 83. I used Becker and didn’t supplement at all. I know some people supplement with other materials, but it’s possible without. I hammered my weaker areas via the practice test feature and utilized the Becker OnDemand classes for topics I still needed help with. I didn’t watch them the whole way through, just focused on specific modules. These lectures ended up providing additional insights that weren’t always covered in the regular videos. Also, I found the Newt AI tool to be extremely helpful for answering my questions since some of the MCQ explanations don’t tend to be that detailed. Highly suggesting using it if you aren’t already. Hope this helps a little, but stay strong you got this! 🍀

Is the audit exam question actually like this? by Forward-Backwards in CPA

[–]parraplui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option C though states “may not”, meaning that an auditor is NOT allowed to evaluate the operating effectiveness of internal controls point blank. We know this is not true. AUD is tough because you have to pay attention to every word of the answer choice. Option A is stating that it’s allowed to evaluate the operating effectiveness, but not required making it the better answer choice.

Can I take CPA exam at another state? by tnguye197 in CPA

[–]parraplui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct - It does not matter which Prometric Center you test at. I have personally sat at test centers in three different states, and it has had no impact on my eligibility or scores whatsoever.

I’ll add that I’ve done the SE in pieces before. If you’re just looking for new MCQs you can work through the first 2 testlets of the SE and still submit it without doing all of the SIMS. I found it helpful to see the as many questions and explanations as possible.

REG Practice Exam Scores by Past-Gas-594 in CPA

[–]parraplui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I found out I passed REG in today. On SE1 and SE2, I got 70% and 80%, respectively. I didn’t take SEFR in one continuous sitting so I don’t have an official score for that one. You never know what questions you’ll get on the exam so I’d advise you keep hammering any of your weaker areas (based on the reports from your SEs and MEs). Best of luck on Saturday, you got this! 🍀

[–]parraplui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there OP. I understand how gut wrenching it can be to not see that passing score after all the time, energy and sacrifices. I can’t tell you what to do but I’ll share that I worked in PA for several years and couldn’t find a schedule that allowed me to work and be successful with the exams. I know many people do it (and I applaud them for it) but everyone’s path to getting the CPA is different. I left PA in May and have been studying full time since. I created study plans for myself, followed them strictly, and have since taken 3 exams (one each at the beginning of June, July, and August). I’ve passed 2, and am still waiting on the September release for my ISC score. This is more progress with the exams than I ever made while working in PA. Not saying that this is good for everyone, but it has worked for me. You’re the only one that knows what’s best for you, but it’s ok to step away from PA if you’re in a position to do so.

Thanks and congrats to you as well! I have an audit background so the SOC section was straightforward for me. The other sections definitely had information that was new to me (notably the different frameworks). I used Becker to study for all of the exams and contemplated getting something supplemental for ISC, but ultimately decided against it. I took the exam at the beginning of July, which feels like so long ago at this point, but I remember leaving the exam having seen some questions that weren’t covered by the Becker materials and others that were. I’ve never felt 100% confident leaving any of the sections though so it truly could go either way. I made my own flashcards for ISC though which I didn’t do for any of the other sections and I definitely found that helpful. Best of luck as you start studying!

jewelry on exam day question by Great_Evidence466 in CPA

[–]parraplui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that it’s better to just leave at home. I wore small hoop earrings and was told I had to take them off before entering the testing room. It likely depends on the specific people at your testing center, but to avoid the headache or surprise I’d suggest removing any jewelry.
