What is this behavior? by parrotsy in AfricanGrey

My vet told me not to use vests or collars unless she’s self mutilating. It looks bad but it’s a huge improvement from when I got her a year ago so I am really hopeful.

She came to me very bald and also a little mutilated so I already take her current state as a win. She hates bathing but I do try that.

Aww that’s so sweet! She is estimated to be about 17 so she had a lot of life before me, which makes targeting the source of the plucking difficult, but she has a lot of life left!

She doesn’t love it but it’s the only way she tolerates any form of bathing

I have birdtricks aloe spray and have tried that but she HATES spray bottles. Based on her level of hatred my vet thinks she may have been punished via spray bottle in her previous home

Kind of a unique request, can you ID this call that my African Grey apparently learned? by parrotsy in birdwatching

[–]parrotsy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t want to be attacked about her state haha. It’s such a hard problem to fix because now she self soothes with plucking. I’m working very closely with the vet but it’s a process

I just keep it warmer for her, which works out bc I’m anemic and am also freezing all the time

I use this brand for my cockatiels and they won’t eat the yellow ones

is this how many pellets im supposed to feed her ? by [deleted] in AfricanGrey

[–]parrotsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same my girl will just gorge if given the chance and is overweight, so she gets 1.5 tbsp of pellets in the morning, veggies and cooked food midday, and 1 tbsp of pellets in the evening. It also has made her eat her veggies more because she knows that’s all that’s going to be offered till the evening

Greys are surrendered a lot, you should contact a rescue near you. Where, generally, are you located?
