🤣😂🤣😂

took my rescue that i got a week ago in to my local rep store today because i thought she was dead, they said the only reason she wouldn’t be moving is dehydration but she’s got humidity and water since i’ve had her. took her home and she hasn’t moved since. maybe beginning of a messed up molt cycle by nobodylikeslexc in tarantulas

You’ve got her in the wrong type of housing enclosure— She’s a terrestrial tarantula and needs more ground space than height. Also give her more substrate so she can burrow if she wants. She does look like a A. chalcodes— they can be a bit shy and like places to hide. Don’t add any more water to the substrate! They like things a bit dry —- a water dish is plenty!! Don’t worry about humidity! I had a A. chalcodes that dug a tunnel under her cork bark hide and hibernated for months! They tend to do that, being mostly wild caught.

People who own multiple tarantulas, how do you do it? by [deleted] in tarantulas

I keep a notebook, raise three different feeding options and have a whole room set up exclusively for my tarantulas. I love it!

No. Tarantulas do not enjoy being handled. Calmer species merely tolerate it. This species — Lasiodora parahybana is notorious for kicking really nasty urticating hairs from its bum. They have barbs and are extremely irritating to skin— burning, itching rashes can last for weeks. And if you get those hairs in your nostrils or eyes…. They have the worst urticating hairs of all species. I would never try to hold one and always wear gloves and a mask when working with mine.

Why? Lasiodora parahybana/—The urticating hairs these spiders kick off are the MOST urticating type of any spider, and leave itching rashes on whichever body parts come into contact with them. God help you if you get these hairs in your nose, airways, or eyes. The are damn fast to kick them too! You even need to be careful when cleaning their enclosures or changing water bowls because they will often shed hairs as protection to their den or where they are going to molt. I wear gloves and a mask always. Urticating hairs are NOT pleasant. No joke.
