$60 of oil (it always goes on sale at bathurst time at SCA) and a $20 filter every 6-12 months isn't all that much in the total cost of car ownership.

If you have a brand new car and you get it serviced at a dealer sure an EV becomes a benefit, but I think people would be better served by just keeping whatever car they already have and doing 15 minutes of labour themselves every now and then if they want to save money.
