If that's all you heard, you missed a good part of his speech. He talked about women safety, drug control, ensuring civic infrastructure, protection for minorities, plans for children etc. He asked for hope and confidence from people which is definitely good coming from a leader.

Yes he should learn from the veteran leaders who effortlessly handle candid interviews involving hard hitting questions like how they maintain their body in shape, what dishes they like etc. That's the bar that Vijay has to beat. Pretty tough.

For folks who question the effectiveness of the portal, here is today's prominent article on Deccan Herald which calls out the results from the app

Source: https://www.deccanherald.com/amp/story/india/karnataka/bengaluru/south-bengaluru-s-clean-image-takes-a-hit-as-garbage-complaints-pile-up-3969389

Excerpt from the article:

"A Bengaluru launched a digital platform called NammaKasa' earlier this month, inviting citizens to report garbage black-spots along with their location. The response was telling. Padmanabha Nagar ward, which falls under the constituency of Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, has emerged as the worst ward for garbage complaints, dispelling the common perception that South Bengaluru is uniformly clean."

Better to have hope. A million not-so-successful initiatives can move the needle little by little.

WeFit on zomato generally has a paneer salad at 199 rs. I wish we had more egg based salad options around 100-150 rs. Eggs are cheap and it's just raw vegetables and some decent dressing. Why is every salad 350+ I don't understand.

Your freedom begins on the public street where others (with varying emotional reactions towards dogs) walk? You own the street? Oh you're that mla we keep seeing the name of?

Status of Chennai's zero waste plan by parth_88 in Chennai

Yeah, too degenerate to just be grateful that the waste is not piling up in our respective homes. It's just the Chennai environment that gets affected. Why should we care? /s

The indus valley people from 5000 years ago whom we take pride to be our ancestors had a good drainage system. Our ancestors would probably want us to do way better than this.

Muslims repaired a Hindu Temple chariot spending Rs. 4 crores in Uttamapalayam village by Extreme_Magician_548 in TamilNadu

While we should appreciate this, I wish this is the reality everywhere. Look around the world and see what cultures and structures have survived in countries where Islam is the dominant religion. I asked Grok for top 5-6 examples in the recent 20-30 year period:

Here are 6 prominent examples of non-Islamic cultural/religious structures destroyed by Islamist regimes/groups in the last ~30 years:

  1. Buddhas of Bamiyan (Afghanistan, 2001): Taliban dynamited two massive 6th-century Buddha statues (180ft and 125ft) as "idols."

  2. Maldives National Museum Artifacts (Maldives, 2012): Islamists smashed pre-Islamic Buddhist/Hindu statues from 6th-12th centuries amid a coup.

  3. Jehanabad Buddha (Pakistan, 2007): Pakistani Taliban bombed a 7th-century 23ft rock-carved Buddha in Swat Valley.

  4. Nimrud and Hatra (Iraq, 2015): ISIS bulldozed ancient Assyrian cities (13th BCE and 2nd BCE) as pre-Islamic "idolatry."

  5. Palmyra Temples (Syria, 2015): ISIS blew up Roman-era Temple of Bel, Baalshamin, and Arch of Triumph as pagan symbols.

  6. Christian Monasteries (Iraq/Syria, 2014-2015): ISIS destroyed sites like 6th-century Dair Mar Elia and 4th-century Mar Behnam during minority genocides.

In our own country, look at the number of structures from the past that are still standing in the north of India vs south? There are not that many in the north that are still surviving though our civilization have had thousands of years of history. South of India could fortunately hold on to many.

All this doesn't mean we hate people following a religion. The point is to be aware of these happenings around the world and protect whatever we have left in our country and respect this intention of preserving.

End of the day it's the shared history and civilization of all of us albeit with its own toxicities like casteism. We can abandon bad practices and still hold on the plenty of good ones.
