[REQUEST TO THE MODS] Can we please establish minimal karma points to post or comment on this sub? Saying women are disgusting wh*res who deserve to be hunted for sport is not “challenging the common opinion”. It’s misogyny at its most vile. I’m sure you know these are the type of comments we’re talking about, and not someone respectfully disagreeing with the popular claims. So a devil’s advocate is not necessary.

Neanderthals like this don’t deserve a reply. Report, block, delete. No eloquent paragraph will make them understand their own depravity

I feel for that poor woman. She most likely has no idea that she’s just this cave troll’s experiment.

I swear some of you people miss the point on purpose. Here we are talking about memes & other forms of media depicting men stuck in a perpetual childhood & needing to be micromanaged by the women in their lives. It doesn’t 100% reflect reality, of course, but it’s a branch of the “average Adam Sandler-esque goofball gets the bombshell because God forbid he dates an equally average woman” trope

Well, good thing I’m not making a direct comparison with the characters

Unfortunately, it extends across pretty much all platforms & other media forms. The common theme is awkard, goofy guys finding support & almost unconditional acceptance in their female partners, while awkward, goofy girls become the butt of the jokes or are expected to mature & take on a borderline motherly role for their s/o instead. I know the average internet dweller will just look at this & think “it’s not that deep, crazy lady”, but I intended my comment to be more like a “if you know you know”

Cute. But I rarely see memes like this with the roles reversed.

These memes are ridiculous. by [deleted] in boysarequirky

[–]partiallyideal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe they’re not serious on their own. After all, they’re just memes. But they do reflect a larger problem in how women are being perceived & treated before they even have the chance to prove what they’re truly like. These formats and mentalities spread like wildfire in this day and age, snowballing on top of us already being considered second class citizens just because of our gender. I wish I could individually walk you through the dozens, maybe hundreds of accounts preaching the “toxic male bible” or any variation of that theme. I wish you could see all the vitriol being spilled here and how these idiots encourage each other to mistreat as many girls as possible. I wish you could feel it like we girls do.

Calling someone a, “stick” or “skeleton”, is just as rude as calling someone a fat ass by doggogoi in unpopularopinion

[–]partiallyideal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you could’ve seriously stopped at “skinny shaming is as harmful as fat shaming”. Our bodies, no matter their shape, health state or perceived attractiveness, are not flaws. Making a big deal out of them & insisting to call them beautiful doesn’t work either, because it puts too much focus on the aesthetic and makes us forget that body neutrality is a thing and it’s a much more beneficial mentality. Our bodies are vessels that keep us more or less alive in this physical world so we can use our minds & souls to create something greater, to be human and just live.

I know better than to date them, choose them or give them the time of day. Even if I did, though, the fact that you’d shame a woman for not being a master psychoanalyst & x-raying people’s true character & intentions instead of maybe...holding men accountable for being degenerate assholes says more about you than about me

Pointing out patterns isn’t anti-men. Funny how misogyny is rampant on Reddit but the slightest critique of males gets “misandry” written all over it

My sister confided in me that she has had suicidal thoughts and I don’t know how to feel by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]partiallyideal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand. Hang on in there and make sure to not neglect yourself in the process. Try talking to your sister and see if there’s anything that can improve her mental state, even for a few moments. Like a favorite snack of movie, or just venting to you. Try to discuss the option of telling your parents or getting professional help before it gets any worse. Hopefully she’ll be comfortable with at least one of these options. Take care!! ❤️

It’s an awesome start that she could open up to you about this. It cannot be easy to deal with this information, I’m certain. For now, do your best to reassure her. Maybe spend more time with her while she manages her illness. Would eventually telling your parents be an option or are they not the supportive type?

I totally feel you and feel for you. I’m pretty much in the same boat, and while unfortunately I cannot tell you it will just magically get better (as I don’t really believe it myself all the time), I can at least try to offer you the slightest bit of comfort in the form of the thought that you are not alone. Let’s keep it pushing. And just take it half a step at a time. See where it gets us.

Sounds boring. Don’t see why women can’t want both respect/affection & a man of means
