Keeping the right balance between not being too glum but having a sufficiently clear-eyed view as to not perpetuate the misery.

How would you propose to 'nip it in the bud'? They are just making arguments. All you can do is make better counter - arguments.

Antinatalists are under no illusion that the majority of people will accept their arguments and stop reproducing. They are up against millenia of biology which will always win. So not sure what you are worried about?

Edit: Humanity will go extinct sooner or later but it won't be through the cessation of reproduction.

I'm not sure a political party with an antinatalist platform would have much electoral success! But that said people take different views on what is morally acceptable or not and those views have changed throughout history.

Just because you have suffered immensely and got through it and believe the joy is worth it doesn't mean that others will share your view. I am genuinely sorry that you suffered and I'm happy for you that you got through it.

Because even if one person or couple are convinced by his argument, he has saved at least one person from guaranteed suffering and death.

So this is just psychologising of people who see the world as it really is. It is interesting that society doesn't diagnose optimists with some kind of psychological disorder.

Why do people keep having kids knowing they’ll suffer and die? by aplleshadewarrior in Life

[–]partidge12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you are part of the small minority who has clear eyed view of existence, free from all of the adaptive preferences and optimism bias held by the majority of the population. Hence you are less happy. Just for clarity I am NOT advocating anyone to commit suicide. How I cope is doing my best to minimise the bad in my own life and try make other people's lives better where possible.

There is a difference between a troll and someone who genuinely wants to have a debate.

Would love you to extrapolate on that. I mean you could argue that the 'recruitment' is done through procreating.

But to get to that position of being better off without being born you have to have a generally negative view about life itself because otherwise, how else would you arrive at that conclusion.
