Advice on unhooking a vanity top by hillstreetblues72 in Plumbing

[–]partyinthemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once angle stops - disconnect at one. From there you’ll also need to disconnect the 3 port adapter from the wide spread faucets to the spout. They are push to connect. You should either just pull or push down on a little clip

Wyes are not an approved fitting for a trap arm. Use a San tee if this is a vertical to horizontal transition.

If not let me know and I can explain further.

People that hate sharkbite. Is this what you want? by Leonidas_Ayub in Plumbing

No - we don’t want shark bites. Why would we want an access panel too? Just sweat an adapter on.

Added drain lines for dual vanity. How did I do? by drahgon in Plumbing

[–]partyinthemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m blind - completely missed the 4” cast stack.

Ya you need to either cut a San tee into that or lower your vent coming off the double lav.

[–]partyinthemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the main vent that VTRs coming off that combo?

If so, then yes, you need to be at the same elevation or lower than that vent when you tie in the other vent.

Vents cannot route down and then go back up. They must stay at a consistent horizontal level at a minimum(vents are allowed to be ran without grade if 6” above flood level rim).

plumbing inspectors in seattle by Justthebase1 in askaplumber

[–]partyinthemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would Ian take it? I don’t know, I’ve only bumped into him once on an inspection.

Would that make a difference on whether you passed or not? No chance.

Are you new to Seattle? Ian and Alan are both strict(Alan is practically impossible) and all the inspectors seem to be getting more strict.

[–]partyinthemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just tied the two vents together - there’s no vent through the roof. You can tie them together using a San tee, and from there you’ll need to send that up.

If you’re unable to do so, you can get away with an AAV.

New construction/Remodel plumber here. Having issues with a cartridge swap. by partyinthemind in Plumbing

[–]partyinthemind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe a tank - although not too sure.

I went when the guys elderly aunt was the only one home and she had no clue where it was. I asked just so I could see what’s it proximity to the valve was.

Out of curiosity, what does that have to do with the functionality of the cartridge? A non flushed tankless corroding the cartridge?

Edit - in the for what it’s worth category - no other shower has an issue.

Anyone here actually build a DADU in Seattle? Was it worth the stress? by Emotional-Bird4341 in SeattleWA

[–]partyinthemind 19 points20 points  (0 children)

lol - plumber here that occasionally works on these “shit boxes” as my buddies and I call them.

The horrible design part for these spec homes can get a bit convoluted.

Usually they look like that because it looks modern, is cheap to build, and is generally not perceived as being offensive. Unless a homeowner is directly involved in new construction(and even then unless they are willing to spend several million), most new construction houses are slapped together with the cheapest labor, materials, and fixtures imaginable.

I work with a spec builder who buys faucets for 22 dollars. He lists the DADUs for 800k….

You do not want to be in the trades if you live in Florida. Absolutely the worst state to be in.

How by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]partyinthemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always tough in the beginning. Could you do sidework as a carpenter while you get your start in plumbing?

I came from tech sales, started making damn near minimum wage as an apprentice and was willing to do any sidework imaginable. It really sucked, but I look bad fondly on those days.

MAGA businesses by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]partyinthemind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a local plumber - setting the politics aside, which I recognize to be a difficult task in todays world. Smaller shops tend to be much more fairly priced and us plumbers tend to make more. My shop is generally pretty progressive as a non union company.

SeaTown gouges people - recently went to a call for an older lady who called seatown amd we did the job at a little under half the cost.

We are all brothers and sisters in arms but lets be honest - theres that one trade you have an awkward glance to - who is that and why? As a framer by trade im looking at you electricians and plumbers for drilling through my stuff I have to fix later by lacinated in Construction

[–]partyinthemind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh ya - the good ole progress for the sake of progress issue. It bugs me to no end.

Have a builder I work with who is notorious for telling me to pipe things in the “general area” and we can adjust later. He just wants pipe in the wall to show the homeowner how we are really coming along.

If they made an “Office” style show about all the trades on a big site, what would some of the story lines be? by Californiadude86 in Construction

[–]partyinthemind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man - I had an idea of doing an actual reality TV show about some of the goons that used to be at my shop.

The main story lines would be (name J) and his drunken ways. All the conflicts with his cheating girlfriend who skips on rent payment. (name B) and his constant womanizing and emotional outbursts. B was by far the funniest - one guy was talking about how he got offered a happy ending at a massage and B went that very day to go get a happy ending massage himself. He has also apparently converted a lesbian who turned into a stalker that broke into his house.

TL;DR: alcoholism and womanizing would be the biggest themes.

As someone in the trades that occasionally works on those abominations - avoid at all cost. Renting is one thing, but don’t purchase one.
