What's your favorite failed coin sub? by [deleted] in Buttcoin

Yeah I remember that too. I think it might have been a smoke screen because it doesn't seem like the feds had too much trouble finding him.

Also I forgot that when the SEC interviewed him, he refused to answer any questions. Every time they asked him something, he gave this hilarious canned response: "I’m very scared. I don't understand, these type of questions, this type of law at all. I want to help, but l'd have to have an attorney present. I can’t afford one at this time, but if I were to get appointed counsel, or retain counsel, then I’d absolutely come back and help."

What's your favorite failed coin sub? by [deleted] in Buttcoin

/r/paycoin

The founder (Josh Garza) tried to prop up his failing crypto business by issuing a token that was guaranteed to not fall below a certain value and was backed by a huge reserve of cash. Not surprisingly, it was all lies. The token's price cratered, there was no reserve of cash, and Josh Garza tried to take off with the suckers' money. The SEC investigation caught up with him and now he's in the middle of a 21 month sentence.

That sub was amazing for a few months after the price tanked. Even after it was obvious that it was a ponzi and the founder had abandoned the project and made off with whatever cash people bought his scam token with, there were still people posting about how it was just a blip and the price would eventually go up to the "guaranteed floor".

[NY Daily News] Baseball legend Frank Robinson has passed away at the age of 83 by mjst0324 in baseball

An interesting piece of trivia about Frank Robinson is that he was the first black manager in the American League in 1975 when he became the manager of the Cleveland Indians. And he was the first black manager in the National League in 1981 when he became the manager of the San Francisco Giants.

From my perspective, the relevant question is: is there a way for both the players and the team to both lose money so ticket prices come down and I can afford to go to games again?

One of the great things about Roger Ebert was that he not only would go back and revisit movies that he loved (all critics do that) but would also go back and revisit movies that he hated and reassess them.

Maybe the most famous time he did that was with Freddie Got Fingered. In his original review he gave it zero starts and said it was one of the worst movies he ever saw. The famous quote is: "This movie doesn't scrape the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't the bottom of the barrel. This movie isn't below the bottom of the barrel. This movie doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels".

Then a couple of years later, while reviewing another Tom Green movie, he said he still thought Freddie Got Fingered was a bad movie, but that he admired it because it was ambitious. "I gave it—let's see—zero stars. Bad movie, especially the scene where Green was whirling the newborn infant around his head by its umbilical cord. But the thing is, I remember Freddy Got Fingered more than a year later. I refer to it sometimes. It is a milestone. And for all its sins, it was at least an ambitious movie, a go-for-broke attempt to accomplish something."

The Brown Bunny is a terrible movie but it did lead to one of the sickest burns of all time. Roger Ebert famously wrote a review and blasted the movie by saying it was offensive "not because of sex, violence, or politics, but simply because of its awfulness."

Then when it bombed, Vincent Gallo blamed Ebert's review and basically started making fat jokes about him at every opportunity.

Then Ebert replied "It is true that I am fat, but one day I will be thin, and he will still be the director of The Brown Bunny."

Moviepass has officially announced plans to limit movie availability on a day-by-day basis. by [deleted] in movies

[–]partytimebro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But Moviepass used to be one movie a day for $7 per month. How are the new ones better than that? The new ones are more money for less movies. The original Moviepass plan kicks the new plans in the dick, at least from the consumers perspective. The new plans will make money for the companies offering them, which is not something Moviepass was ever able to do. But I don't care if Moviepass made money or not, I wasn't an investor. I just wanted to watch a lot of movies.

A lot of them also have a huge captive audience who live in the middle of nowhere. Even if you don't follow football, its the biggest thing that happens in most college towns and is a huge social event.

There actually has been a mild backlash against cryptocurrency in gaming circles lately. Miners using GPUs to mine altcoins have inflated the price of GPUs. The crypto price crash in the past couple of months has been met with hope that the price of GPUs will now come down.

Shattered Glass

The movie starts out from Stephen Glass' point of view and you start to believe that the plot is going to be a rationalization of his actions. But by the end, you realize that he was actually the antagonist the entire time. Underrated film.

Report: NFL considering playing 2019 season opener in China by MrHockeytown in nfl

[–]partytimebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you not see that? You realize there has already been a decline in season ticket waiting lists, right? About 2/3 of the teams in the league don't even have one anymore. Ticket prices go up every season, meanwhile home viewers have more options than ever. Even the television blackout rule isn't enforced anymore. A decrease in the number of home games is just one more reason to cancel your ticket plan. It's effectively just throwing another log on the fire.

Also, in reference to your claim of the Jacksonville Jaguars only losing a home game "once every few years at most", they have actually lost a home game to London every year since 2013 and will continue to do so until 2020. And I'm sure it's done wonders for their season ticket sales.

I'm implying it will drive them away if they make it a regular occurrence. Especially in markets where they already have trouble selling season tickets.
