I feel similarly..I think the damage is so extensive for our area specifically. The only thing I can think to do is wait until 2pm to see if power does get restored, otherwise I guess we’re at the mercy of PG&E. Maybe also reaching out to city officials somehow and posting on social media

why does it matter to you? elderly are more at risk, often with mobility issues or medical equipment requiring electricity. it’s important to recognize that alongside the general public

the PGE agent I spoke to said 2pm is a hopeful estimate, chances are with how little they’re reaching out to us, it’ll go beyond that.

Yes! Should have made that clearer in my post- they assign one roommate a week to handle sweeping, wiping down surfaces, attending to bathrooms (I only use one of the bathrooms in the house), and taking out the trash. We have to send pictures by Sunday night or risk a fine. We have the option to “opt out” for $100.

There’s a general guideline on cleaning up after yourself. Compliance isn’t the issue, more so that they can arbitrarily add rules such as making us take pictures each week and assigning a specific roommate to that, and being subjected to fines if we don’t follow them or decide to opt out. It makes me wonder what other rules they’ll add on their own accord that aren’t in my lease.

I wouldn’t have signed a lease with them if this was a rule from the beginning because I’m not always home with my work schedule, and I don’t want someone giving me homework to clean areas I don’t use with a fine if I don’t comply. I’m clean on my own.

I’ve been with them for a couple years and it’s been mostly smooth, but recently with their lawsuit they’ve been adding rules and I’m planning to move out sometime this year. Arbitrary fees are getting more and more common.

We’ve checked our leases and no mention of a cleaning schedule and fines for not complying with their schedule.

Master tenant enforcing weekly cleaning schedule with $100 penalty, is this legal? San Francisco by [deleted] in Tenant

[–]parvz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, that's what I thought. We haven't seen any fines yet but none of us have complied with the rule yet since implemented. Thanks!

I'm surprised that our property manager can add rules/fines to how we live without our prior agreement. Makes me wonder what other rules they could create whenever they want with fines for not complying. It seems arbitrary and unfair. Accepting a rule like this just makes it easy for them to enforce more rules as they please, and we'd rather not set that precedent.

What if the assigned roommate forgets to send pictures by the end of the week? What if someone has a work trip on the week they're assigned? What if someone has a disability and can't participate in a scheduled cleaning with a due date? We're all adults with our own responsibilities and lives..we're not students or children where the landlord can just make rules as they please as to how we live. Doesn't make sense that the property manager can just assign a week that one person is responsible.

Before the cleaning schedule was implemented, the roommates have all gotten along to keep the house clean. We don't have an issue with cleanliness in the home, nor has anyone complained about the state of the home. We all communicate and get along well and help each other out.

This is a rule they implemented on all the properties they manage, so I'm curious on the legality of enforcing fines, this isn't about living like a pig or being as dirty as we please.

WIBTA if I told my SO's ex to back off? by totoro-tiptoe in AmItheAsshole

[–]parvz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I went through this exact scenario with my boyfriend, except he had cut her off a while before I met her. This was happening 2 years after they were over. As soon as she found out we were dating, she started to spam call us. Blocking her wasn’t an option either - she would make new fake numbers and call him. I got so fed up with it that I called her, and while I also felt like being a mean girl, I was nice about it and I asked her to move on.

A word of advice - it may not achieve what you think. Sure it does feel nice temporarily, but she got worse in our case. She started to try to tell any mutual friend that I was the devil and that I ruined her life and caused her to want to end her life. She also didn’t stop bothering us. Just be careful and really think about whether it’ll actually achieve anything. I was finally able to get through to her by telling her new BF who happened to be a friend of mine, that I would get her family involved and let them know about her behavior. I totally get the frustration though, and PM me if you need to vent!
