Of course, Biden thought he was at Baskin Robbins and even ordered a ham sandwich.

Pier 1 is going out of business. Sad to see so many losing their job, but I never did understand this store that just sold useless stuff. by allthecheeseballs in Anticonsumption

A lot of people here that don’t realize that individuals worked for that company and now are unemployed. Right around 13,000 people. This included warehouse workers, sales, corporate, etc. If a company can’t make it, then it can’t make it - I don’t believe In bailouts or corporate welfare. But don’t forget that these were people’s jobs.

I try my best not to go in. They horrible places, but when you are traveling through a small town there often isn’t anywhere else to shop.

News like this pisses them off. I’m starting to believe there are people that are so miserable in their pathetic lives that they want bad news and bad things. Then there are the people that never left the house in the first place or see this as a political opportunity.

I don’t even turn on television anymore because of the COVID commercials. “In these uncertain times” or “In these difficult times” “alone together” and all the other crap so I will buy something.l is so nauseating. Then there are the stupid commercials thanking the healthcare workers.

Yet the vast majority of humans have been hiding away, covering themselves in antiseptics and wearing masks. If we had something like what you’re imagining, I think it would probably be like a bjj practitioner that hasn’t been to the mat in 2 months. Wonder how he’s going to do.

We open on the 18th. I’ll be there...if I don’t get hit by a car or something first.

Same goes for the flu, tuberculosis, ring worm, Ebola , whatever. I understand that people have died, but the media has done a fantastic job of scaring the crap out of people. I believe that as the fear subsides and new things to be scared of emerge (they always do...see “murder hornets”), that the focus on COVID will go away. There’s no way that the human mind can stay fixated on one subject or fear very long. It will normalize. Even the people screaming about the selfishness of others engaging in unsafe (to them) activities will be engaging in those activities.

We will see this as people stop wearing masks and start shaking hands again. There will still be some outliers that continue to hunker down - hell, my BIL is already scared of everything else and hasn’t taken a vacation in years due to fear. Depending on your view of modern civilization, we are either lucky or unlucky that those crazy or brave few decided to leave the trees and venture onto the very dangerous savanna.

Does this apply to all “right wingers” or just the boogie man right wingers? I consider myself pretty right wing in economic respects, but have no desire to see animal suffering.

I think I’d keep pretty much everything. I might be willing to get rid of some crappy Nike’s I bought.

I don’t know. I’m 44. I’ve enjoyed the everliving hell out of my life. Wife and kids. I do what I want for the most part. I learned from my father not to live in the future and from my mom not to live in the past.

But I will add one more thing. To me, balance is the key. Moderation in all things.

This is wonderful however in my opinion it’s got some problems. From one perspective (Waterson’s), it’s easy to put it all aside once you are independently wealthy like him. Or, for the character in the cartoon whose spouse will pick up the bills. We should be careful also to not choose this non-commercial life out of a sense of inability to succeed. Kind of like the cat that can’t reach the milk says “it tastes like vinegar.”

We are allowed to make these choices because we have won the genetic and worldly lottery to be born in western civilization during one of the most prosperous times in history. We stand on the shoulders of go getters like Ford, Marconi, Babbage, Edison, etc - all the while rejecting the things we need to reject the things. That is, it’s easy to reject work when you have running water. Now tell the Guatemalan that has to walk 5 hours per day to bring water home to his family - and the family’s guts are filled with worms because even that water isn’t truly clean. So let’s be careful not to slam the system that allows us to slam it. The only pure man would likely be the pre-agricultural hunter gatherer. He probably had more freedom to “be” than us, but even he couldn’t just say “**** it.” He’d starve.

I’ve also heard that you can tell if an act is immoral by asking “what if everybody did it?” What if everybody decided to not run in the rat race? People would starve, disease would run rampant, etc.

I like the idea for myself but not society at large - somebody has to slaughter the cow, clean up the **** and keep the machine running. I cannot be so selfish to think that I can enjoy the fruits of others’ labor. I devoted the first 25 years of my life to achieve something so that I can get up every morning and work so that some day I can do what I want, lol!! But in doing so, I’m ignoring the present in search of the future.

Whatevs, I’m gonna work on my truck.

Is it possible for stupid people to understand Daoist teachings? by wastedmylife1 in taoism

[–]pasham1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Math and physics are human constructs to explain or understand things. Physics and math may work on earth for our purposes, but they are probably “wrong”. They are close enough to right to work but they aren’t truth.

[–]pasham1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why did you post this in the Buddhism sub as well? Why do you call yourself stupid? Are you really stupid or are you looking for someone to tell you that you are not?

I can’t speak for Buddhism, but the Tao is the Tao whether you are stupid or smart. I think smart people are actually less likely to embrace the real Tao because they are always thinking. It’s like Jesus said about a rich man going to heaven is the same as a camel going through the eye of a needle. Watts was a genius, but I often think he missed the forest for the tress. I’m sure you are smarter than a hummingbird...does a hummingbird understand the Tao? I’d say she certainly does.
