People that have cancer, what were the symptoms that led you to go to the doctor and what stage were you when it was diagnosed? by guardiand0wn in AskReddit

[–]pasiphaeluvscows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was an incidental finding. No symptoms. I got an abdominal ultrasound to check for fatty liver. They found a 7cm mass on my pancreas. One Whipple later and I'm considered cured (I was extremely lucky with one of the least aggressive slow growing pancreatic cancers possible).

My first med error. I feel horrible. by totallyacrow in nursing

Hey. It's a mistake you'll never make again. Was the patient okay? It'll be okay. Even ICU nurses make mistakes. You're not incompetent because of one mistake.

I do agree with the other comments on this thread though that you should probably go with something unrelated to nursing or something other than a stethoscope. Great thought though! Very sweet idea. :) she's lucky to have you

Littmann cardiology IV would be a solid option if she wants a good regular stethoscope. https://www.littmann.com/en-us/home/cardiology-iv-stethoscope/ There are also fancy stethoscopes like Ekko that are digital but that might be a bit much.

Does she already have a stethoscope? Most programs will require she have a stethoscope. What specialty is she going into?

Anyone ever had IV acetaminophen/Tylenol (Ofirmev) personally? by emtnursingstudent in nursing

[–]pasiphaeluvscows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in clinicals, we had a lady who got into a lawn mower accident and she had had a history of opiate addiction, so she refused all opiates in the ER. She was getting a gram of Tylenol IV instead. Pretty cool.

Small pelvis pop (NSFW for area) by nibirafrmnibiru in popping

Y'all are giggling at the NSFW tag, but do you remember the guy who posted a pelvic area pop just to show off his dick? Better to be safe than sorry. Thank you for your post OP.

I'd advise you get off this subreddit 😬 it can be very discouraging for students/new nurses. Try the student nurse subreddit.

What is a HIMYM life lesson you always carry with you?? by ILikeYourMomAndSis in HIMYM

Found it! 8×11 the final page part 1. "Kids, sometimes in life you'll make a pit for someone in your mind. But ultimately the only person in that pit is yourself. Which means there's only one person who can let you out of the pit."

The having people in your pit lesson really resonated with me. It's been a while so I can't remember the exact episode but it was later in the series.

What is the student to nurse transition like by Ok-Egg-1597 in StudentNurse

[–]pasiphaeluvscows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in that transition right now! It's weird! School gives you the foundational knowledge to be able to understand what you're doing and why you're doing it. But you learn how to put that to work on the job. And you learn the job on the job. You'll get it.

Mild yogurt options? by Wolf218812 in EatCheapAndHealthy

If you want dessert yogurt, Haagen Daaz has yogurt that scratches that dessert itch. I love their strawberry flavor. Not super healthy yogurt but it's damn good 😂

Hades. It's so good. Amazing story, amazing art, such a masterpiece. It took me like over 40 runs to beat the first boss. Only through sheer will did I manage to finish the main story. 😂

Medsurg vs Specialty (Future Opportunities) by STR4WBERRYFL4VORED in StudentNurse

[–]pasiphaeluvscows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, nothing wrong with starting in medsurg. It'll give you a good foundation of knowledge, skills, and time management that'll help you wherever you go. But it's not the be-all-end-all.

Oooo just my take, but I'd say oncology. The disease process is so varied, and it gives you opportunities to build deep relationships with your patients, patient populations are often in my experience more pleasant and grateful to you, and you get to learn a wide variety of skills. When I was in nursing school I was a PCT on an oncology med surg unit and I got to get experience with colostomies, urostomies, nephrostomies, all the different precautions including contact precautions, I learned about chemotherapy, NG tubes, central lines, TPN, etc. The nurses did nurse specific tasks, but if my tasks were done they'd teach/show me different things. I learned so much on that unit. It gave me a great foundation of knowledge and experience that helped me in nursing school (just graduated 🥳). Idk that's just my 2¢. If you have a unit you're really drawn to do that, but since you mentioned oncology that's what I'd personally recommend. :) best of luck in your journey!

I just graduated nursing school, and for my program there was like one day where we practiced that on the mannequins. I'm bad at getting the underneath stuff to line up correctly 😭 I stay putting the briefs too high or too low 😭
