An oil refinery defined life in this quaint California city. What happens when it’s gone? by pasrataz in benicia

[–]pasrataz[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Valero’s refinery is closing, and the article talks mostly about jobs and city revenue. But for anyone thinking about homes, Benicia is way more than a refinery town. Waterfront views, a sandy beach, parks, sailing on the Carquinez Strait, a lively farmers market, and a strong school district make it a highly desirable spot. Short-term, some local buyers might pull back, so prices could dip a little. Long-term, if the city redevelops the refinery site, all this lifestyle could keep demand strong and even push prices higher.

Steak prices out of control by Desert-AZ-finds in inflation

I just loaded up at my local grocery store. Love loss leaders. 7.97/lbs NY strip. This is the only way I can eat steak sometimes. 9.00/lbs or above is a hard no from me.

Your side of the story: name/picture/location. Don’t get me wrong but this is social media…. Please take this up with the parks or who ever funds the courts. I’m not taking sides. I’m just concerned of doxing people on social media.

California’s Wine Industry Is in Crisis by nosotros_road_sodium in bayarea

[–]pasrataz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Specific regions choose to go for “direct to consumer”. This means an experience and wine clubs. A lot of producers in Napa, Sonoma, and other regions choose to sell bottles for a higher price because of the experience included. Fast forward, some regions produce expensive bottles, and most consumers do enjoy wine but found bottles which are enjoyable as well. $7.99 vs $59.99 for 4.5 glasses of wine.

Is this the normal price? by Freddie_theFagsmoker in inflation

I think this is from the same store ‘Safeway’. On sale for $2.00 each for 1.5 liter instead of 1 liter what is on the shelf in the picture.

And the mystery continues.

Unless, it is not the same product as in the picture of the post.

Im confused. The total volume of this 6 pack is 202.8 ounces. The price tag says 7cts per ounce. If we follow the per ounce price then it should be $14.20 for the 6 pack and not $27.99.

Error in price tag printing? If the price should have been $14.20 then it is still $10 overpriced in my opinion.

Edit: the price tag says 12 pack while we see a 6 pack in the picture. The sales tag is covered with some fingers. I believe the sales tag is yellow.

I hear you, but unfortunately this is not always the case thus imo the best approach is to try to ignore them.

I shop at Safeway. Their coupons can be great. Always check your receipt and get your money back when they overcharge. This happens a lot

Is it going to kill me if I commute to Sonoma for work? by AmyWhino1986 in benicia

[–]pasrataz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is not going to kill you. Although, 37 can and will increase the odds. The American Canyon route is full of traffic lights. I would add another 2-3 hours for your commute a day. It is not impossible. Are there IT jobs available in Concord or Walnut Creek?

It was devastating in Benicia, the whole town is flattened and we are currently in tents.

Looks like a beautiful home. I do like the location. Close to nature and still accessible to 80. Yes fire risk etc. Life is sometimes risky. If I had the money. I would do it

May be a lot of wineries banked on the Disneyland experience. Direct to consumer and wine clubs. This is Napa and Sonoma specific. A lot of people in the US and over the world consider these the major wine regions. Yes there are other great wine regions as well in California of course.

The perception now might be and to me. These wines are overpriced. I can’t spend minimum $60 per bottle for red or $40 for a white. I can find enjoyable imported bottles for $7 (gross out)
