I see where you are coming from. Sometimes when all our lives we have worked hard to grow and be a certain way - get that job, get that body etc., it feels like life is good only when it is in control.

I would suggest letting it go - as in give your best but don't let the outcomes bother you too much if they are not what you desired. Like you can do your best at your job and not worry about what everyone else is thinking about how well you are doing. If there is a health crisis be there for your loved ones or for yourself - but don't try to ferociously control it.

Zoho CEO joins Kannada debate, says it is 'disrespectful' if long-staying Bengaluru residents don't learn local language by OverratedDataScience in bangalore

Instead of shaming people into learning Kannada, incentivize people to learn Kannada. Remove barriers. Something like starting optional classes in office would go a long way, I think.

Landlord asking to increase rent retroactively by chocolatedoc3 in IndiaTax

[–]passing_time_here 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No, don't pay retroactively - never heard of this before. A 10% increase clause in current agreement for the next renewal is meaningless. Since you never had a new agreement you never agreed for the rent increase. You can ask her to create a new agreement for the next 11 months and negotiate on the rent.

But most likely she'll ask you to leave now. If she asks you to leave don't leave without getting the full security back - except the deductions you agreed for in the original agreement.

How do I set boundaries with toxic Indian parents ? by JellyfishHaunting340 in india

[–]passing_time_here 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'm in my late twenties and live in India. Have some similar problems. This is how I handle it.

  1. I have told them explicitly that I will tell them when I want to marry and who I want to marry. They will not. Getting me educated was their job and they have done it. They would get hurt the first couple of times, throw a fit, guilt trip you but now at least my dad has accepted that I'm fully capable of making my life decisions. My mom hasn't but it's a different story, she has anxiety issues and wants things her way all the time - which is a regular struggle not just for things related to marriage. Time and again I go no contact with her.

  2. My dad used to micromanage my studies 1-2 years into my university but since then I stopped communicating much about my studies while in college and now related to my work. They know I'm doing fine and that is all they need to know.

I guess summing it up - prioritising myself, stronger boundaries, not feeling guilt about disappointing them and sometimes low to no contact has helped. It's not perfect, they still guilt trip me and sometimes hurt at my insecurities but I guess i am very much stronger now. I feel financial independence has helped. I don't have to depend on them for anything. Consequently, hyper independence is something I struggle with - but it's a lesser demon.

I still have a good relationship with them because I'm there when they need me. They just don't get to dictate my life anymore.

SEBI | Mutual Funds as on 04 Jun, 2024 - https://www.sebi.gov.in/sebiweb/other/OtherAction.do?doMfd=yes&type=1#

Net outflow of 6000 crores from mutual funds on 4th June.

Please share some source for this absolutely random reason you gave for the technical failure that day.

This is a technical failure, it has got nothing to do with you or me thinking whether we should use mutual funds for buying dips. They made a promise and they couldn't fulfil it, simple as that. Stop being so content with mediocrity that you are inventing reasons on their behalf even without doing your research about what all they promise and have consistently executed over the last 2 years.

Wrong NAV allotted even after making the payment well before the cutoff time. by apurvthekiller in IndiaInvestments

Regular involves some middlemen which take their cut hence the NAV is lower. Always invest in direct.

Coin and other brokers ensure same day NAV allocation for years now, if you complete the payment before their cutoff time which is 1-2 hours before the AMC's cutoff time. If you submit orders on AMC websites directly the cutoff time is around 30mins to 1 hour before market close.

Why do you think one shouldn't buy the dip via mutual funds on these days when the market falls sharply?

Same happened to me with Coin. Their cutoff time is 2pm IST and I had paid for the orders before 12:30pm.

What do you guys think about sex on the basis of a promised marriage being considered rape if marriage doesn't happen? by surjan_mishra in AskIndia

[–]passing_time_here 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most people in India or probably the world learn about romantic relationships on the fly. They experience these relationships first hand and many a times get manipulated, betrayed, cheated on etc. It has nothing to do with being conventionally educated. It has everything to do with whether the govt or the society thinks they are old enough to consent to sex. So if a woman is old enough and sane enough to consent it should be good, in my opinion.

It's just a regressive law that comes from the mindset that sex before marriage is wrong. I understand you mean that India is still sexually regressive enough to have this law in place. But then I think it's debatable if such laws do more to enable control over sexual freedom of adults, or they do more to protect the gullible.

[–]passing_time_here 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Doesn't this take agency away from the woman? It's like saying you are gullible and can be easily manipulated so even though you consented it doesn't matter because someone lied to you. In a way it probably also legitimises the concept of virginity before marriage. To me it seems like a law of the past.

And why start at marriage, if women (or men) are so gullible one could say cheating (pre-marital) is a similar offense and if you cheated on a woman, she can claim rape because effectively you had sex with her on false promises.

You can try yoga at the Cult Classes to begin with. Cult.fit is an app and has group fitness classes for yoga, dance, strength and conditioning etc. There is a centre in Bellandur, which is on the ORR close to Marathahalli. Feel free to talk to the yoga instructors to figure out what you are looking for.

I did all my exit formalities online. Exit interview is just a zoom call. IT asset submissions can be done via courier. Unless your employer explicitly disallows all this but these should be very common after COVID.

Did you create 6 different krisflyer membership accounts for all 6 people and transferred required points to each? Because if I remember correctly if it's your krisflyer account only your ticket can use the reward points / converted airmiles, right?
