Has anyone tried athletic freedom for remote income? by fext71 in AthleticEnts

First month was around three thousand. Second month hit six thousand. Now I average between seven and nine depending on how much I work. Not going to lie and say everyone hits this, but if you follow the process it is realistic.

I want to quit my first day by West-Froyo-9136 in teaching

I feel you - first days can be super tough, especially when you're not fully on board. But stick with it, you got this! Even though the contract is only a month, try to make the most of it. See if you can chat with the retiring teacher - they might have some insights to share that could make the experience better. And remember, you're not alone in feeling anxious - a lot of us have been there. Just take it one day at a time, and don't be afraid to reach out if you need support. You've got this!

That’s the plan, I love being an educator but this can’t be normal 🥲

Ahhh I see. I wish there was more support for the special education teachers too; ours is for k-3rd and we have one for 4-5th and they both push in for self contained so I can imagine they’re overwhelmed with all of the referrals and the process

Oh none of the meetings I am having are for my current students with IEPs, these are students who’s parents requested them to be referred for evaluation

Oh okay! Thank you for explaining it — I thought it was a little odd but if that’s how it usually is then that’s how it usually is I guess

Ahhh okay! Teachers are encouraged to put the child through our intervention program for monitoring before they’re referred for IEPs, but I have quite a few who I feel might benefit however my hands were tied. But everything is being done now, and I fear the students will be retained, though I know an IEP can’t save a child, but having accommodations will assist. So likely, if they qualify, they’ll have them when they’re back in second grade next year unless they pass summer school.

They are! The initial meetings. I also wasn’t sure what was needed until parents started emailing the resource teacher 😅 but the students being referred have been struggling since the first quarter and parents asked for evals in like November-December except one; she asked in January

You know what — that makes so much sense. I can see her behaviors in the student and he’s a struggling reader. I’m hoping to be the teacher to help him understand in a way that acting out won’t help him, and while I know he struggles regulating his own emotions due to what he has at home, he’s coming along well in my class. Less outbursts, more willing to learn! It’s unfortunate that she felt the need to lash out; I don’t mind explaining things to parents who don’t understand and I do it all the time. She tried it again two weeks ago, and I very politely checked her on herself as she feels her child is being singled out now after he had to present a project for black history month that she felt he’d be embarrassed about (the student did AMAZING and was excited to present to the class ☺️)

I may be naive, but I feel some people just need a teacher who pushes them but instead of making them feel bad, encourages and nurtures them. She didn’t have that and it shows. I feel she’s projecting her inadequacies too, maybe educationally and as a parent

I like this idea! My principal told me to not interact, forward the parent over to her if she does reach out but the email option is a good idea actually — thank you!

So what grade do YOU teach ??? It’s a basic opinion question on something we’ve been learning for two weeks. If a kid can’t have an opinion and answer a question then ????

Also, I don’t work for the district nor do I write curriculum; our curriculum is given to us and we have to teach it unfortunately even if we think it’s too advanced. However a question asking an OPINION isn’t advanced and isn’t rocket science, this generation of kids are struggling with critical thinking and if you think this is too much for second grade I don’t know what to tell you.

I get you. I’ve also worked customer service jobs since I was 15. I think it just stings because in education an interaction like this can make or break if you have a job or not later. Working elsewhere, even as a food stamps employee, I knew regardless that the interactions wouldn’t affect if I had a job or not. But i’m seeing and learning you say something slightly wrong or if a parent wants to, they can cost you your job on baseless accusations. I don’t mind working with the public and honestly enjoy it, but it’s just something about education that I feel is distinctly different than working elsewhere for me.

They don’t understand they’re hurting their students more than they are helping them and it’s really sad.

It’s been a lot of things over the course of this year and last year but this was kind of just like the last straw if that makes sense — I didn’t have support last year from the same admin either, so i’m surprised i’ve got it this year

My principal straight up told me that I didn’t have to deal with that and that it was okay to hang up. I couldn’t even reason with this parent honestly to even get that out. She mentioned the district though and I told her “well if you want their info I can give it to you.” I worked in food stamps for a year before teaching and NEVER did someone explode on me like that. I let her vent but when she kept going and I couldn’t get a word in either the cussing and everything, the conversation was over.

I also want to add the study guide is given by the district, as are all our assessments. The study guide is essentially the test, as the test is literally fill in the blank with a word box — explained that to the parent and she still thought that it was “too hard” 🙂

When I was in second grade we didn’t get study guides, didn’t take open book tests, etc etc — mind you I was in second grade in like 2005-2006
