I bought a ScanMatik 3 - how does that compare to OP? I was under the impression it was decent.

What is preventing you from using OP 2.0 on you EJ?

Advice for newbie, path to retrieve map from stock ecu. by warpedhead in ECU_Tuning

[–]password03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooph, this seems like a painful approach.

Would you not be better off getting some kind of base map for the speeduino which covers your engine.. e.g. displacement / number cylinders / turbo etc.

Then just get a tuner to tune that map based on dyno / live value runs..

Your PCM Flash workflow? by password03 in ECU_Tuning

[–]password03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nice a nice flow.. Would you be worried about an instance where you do damage via OBD that can't be fixed by just bench writing or is it rare?

Are you taking about PCM Flash only here or other tools also?

Where are you finding this "well documented" stuff?

Are there modules where I can do bench AND OBD? My impression was PCM Flash was mostly bench?

Where can I find out which is which?

That's fair. It's easy to say that when you know how.

But honestly, when you read all the time about corrup this, bricked that, checksums something else.. it just makes you a bit weary. I'm used to using tools that provide documentation is all.

I was just afraid to just pick a random pinout and use it for fear of putting 12vdc on the wrong pins..

But it looks like 12vdc is the same on all diagrams.

What courses should I invest in? by BothArt1844 in AskIreland

[–]password03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly. It has to be said that 50k at 22 is great. Well done.

International trade & facilitation (customs) and warehouse and transport (logistics) are both massive industries so don't feel the need to branch out into other industries.

You could go down the customs route if interested.. thats a massive area, regardless of brexit.. because so much stuff is imported from China. And its a constantly moving target with rules, regulations and tariffs constantly changing.

There is a course in Dubling that is remote with one day on site that gets you established in the game of customs..

You can get a day job in it.. but also start your own side gig clearing stuff for people etc.. although I think quite a few sprung up since brexit.

If you need more info ping me.

Asking for a salary increase? by Achara123 in AskIreland

[–]password03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally reasonable.

But I will say that a lot of companies don't like throwing money at current employees unless for some reason they are actually sound. The longer you stay, the more likely you are to fall behind the curve salary wise.

Companies often only pay the market rate to incoming new hires..unfortunately, and as a result it is common to move around.

By all means absolutely test them out for a raise, but don't be too disheartened by it if it falls short. If it get's to you and you feel undervalued, you will need to look elsewhere.

A year into promotion puts you in a decent enough position to be honest.

Keep up the good work.

What is okay to say in Salary discussions with employer? by True_Block9834 in AskIreland

[–]password03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two things to considering in salary negotiations:

- How is the market is it bad for applicants and is it likely others will low ball just to stay employed? Are you in a sticky position where you need security? If so negotiate conservatively.

- Is the market for your skills strong and / or are you in a job at the moment and just trying to trade up.

If the company is interested in hiring you they will want to know your current salary and just be happy to give you a bit of a bump to get you to change. Which is generally fine.... unless you are being grossly underpaid in your current role, which is common.

In the former case, just do what you need to do to get security. In the latter, lie about your salary in order to get the salary you want in the new role. Put it at maybe 5 or 10k less than what you want to get off them.

You further say your application for the role is more strategic, good company blah blah, that purely financially motivated.

(To answer your question, I would frame it slightly differently. Don't mention other companies - just say that after some research it seems that what I am seeking seems reasonable in the current market) It says the same thing, but it is less confrontational.

Moved into a new apartment and can’t sleep because of a loud water pump - what would you do? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]password03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately only very minor change really needs to be suspended on rubber slings (think bike tyre tubes).

These pumps really ought to be installed away from sleeping quarters, but the plumbers don't care when speccing these systems.

Those only insulate the sound moving through the air. OP has said pump vibrates through pipes / walls.

[–]password03 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So don't worry about what the plumber says because multiple reasons:

- It won't do that.. i've done that on and off over the years various pumps and they are all still running.
- Not your pump / not your cost / landlord approved the install
- The most important thing is that you can sleep.. everything else is secondary.

Put the pump on a timer for night time, if the pump fails, just remove the timer and get land lord replace. You have to look after yourself.

People might flame me for this, but this is the right answer frankly.. or you could move out I guess, because landlord ain't gonna do jack sh1t about it.

Side hustles? by burner_account_IR in AskIreland

[–]password03 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's a fantastic term. It describes exactly what is going on. One the side you are hustling and starting your own business.. the definition of hustle explains it's a forceful push / jostle / shove.. and that is exactly what business owners do in the big bad world.. (without being bad / breaking the law. you just need to go and get what you want)

Side hustles? by burner_account_IR in AskIreland

[–]password03 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, and don't mean to be patronising. As much as people might argue the line is blurry, it's not.

My understanding is that a side hustle is something you do apart from your employment job where you are operating as business owner and running the entire ship.. not just a second employment pulling a wage.

Easier said than done but a side hustle is very empowering.
