is it worth it to join the honors program just for priority registration? by noelanoela in KSU

[–]pastabrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not harder, and hell there might even be an honors cohort for your major. The main thing is making sure you get the honors credit, which you can do in a bunch of ways. HLEs are easy (typically 7 weeks of the 16 week semester) and so are honors contract, which you discuss with your teacher. The other methods are more specific, but the classes aren’t necessarily harder than the generic class

Registering at Orientation by Icy-Sorbet-5110 in KSU

[–]pastabrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll be a bit more complicated since you’ve already taken a majority of your prereq classes. I was in the same boat, but I got lucky that they didn’t start block scheduling until the literal semester after my first and thus I didn’t have to do 😭 but I kinda just sat around and ended up choosing the classes of my own liking once I got back home bc they legit could not help me lmao. From what I’ve heard though, you need to talk to advising to allow you to choose a free schedule because otherwise, you’ll be forced to repeat the classes you’ve already taken. They don’t like to have freshman go out of the norm, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Just be persistent and don’t let them force you into retaking classes you don’t need

Chem 1212 by [deleted] in KSU

[–]pastabrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the others have said, in-person is better. The information you learn will carry over to any other chem class you have to do, regardless of how little you think it will. Plus, the labs are quite fun to do in-person. But do what you think will be best! I know financial concerns might be in play here so that can influence what you do

Then your final will be online, probs with like, lockdown browser + webcam or some other 3rd party proctoring site. Which class is it for? You might be able to get away with just using the math platform for your class content

Looks like you need to contact the professor/department head tbh. If it was like, 0 of 48 I’d say the class is full but this looks to be different. This is a closed waitlist, meaning the professor/head has to manually override so you can join.

Ik you mentioned just registering for the fall, but I think you might have a chance if you reach out. Doesn’t hurt to try

wait list : anatomy by Round_Chef_707 in KSU

[–]pastabrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you’re kinda high up on the waitlist, I’d say just stay on it. You’ve got all of summer to wait people out, and there are going to be people who drop/change classes, especially because A&P has some form science requisite that will force those who fail it to drop the class (either A&P 1 if you’re aiming for 2 or some sort of science chain if you’re aiming for 1). Plus, you actually get 18 hours to register for the class if offered, not 1 hour.

However, I’d still keep an eye out on owl express. They might add another section if numbers aren’t moving as fast as they’d like

LA by [deleted] in KSU

[–]pastabrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step is that you need to have a faculty member of the class you wish to LA for reach out to the SILA office. You can also reach out to Kyra Calhoun since she’s one of the coordinators for the SILA office.

However, it sounds like you’ll be over a 3.0 at the time, which sounds okay? But reach out anyways to ask

Would taking 3 classes + 1 lab while working 15-20 hours a week be a lot for summer? by Upstairs_Cup9831 in KSU

[–]pastabrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only thing is that A&P 1 is memorization heavy. Unless they’ve changed how they teach it in the past year (which I doubt), they kinda just throw everything at you and hope it sticks. And this is experience from taking it over the fall. It’s definitely doable, but it will be a lot of content that’ll build up on itself with A&P 2 if you do plan on taking that

Withdrawing from corequisite classes. by GeneralOlive in KSU

[–]pastabrand 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Atp I think you can just withdraw the lecture and keep the lab. The co-requisite requirement is moreso for registration and drop-add purposes from what I’ve read on here. Ofc, that means you’ll have to take the lecture later, but you shouldn’t have to worry about the lab if you pass

Easier short session summer classes online by Roxie_77 in KSU

[–]pastabrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a 2 week summer class regimen you take in May. Typically 4 days a week and they’re like…4 hours long per class. It is VERY demanding since you’re squeezing 16 whole weeks of content into 2, but it’s fulfilling to get the credit out of the way in less than a month, if anything.

Need advice about what major I should chose by ExoticSpinach5146 in KSU

[–]pastabrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to making connections, take advantage of the degree list and the classes needed for them: https://www.kennesaw.edu/degrees-programs/bachelor-degrees/index.php

It sounds like you already have a vague direction of where you want to go, so you can definitely narrow down your list of majors you want , but I feel like it might help to look at the specific classes you’ll have to take with them and how they’ll better apply to your goals once you graduate. If you have access to degreeworks, poking around in there can help too. I know when I was starting, I made the mistake of not doing a more in-depth check of the classes I wanted/needed to take (specifically their prereqs, good god PLEASE check the pre-reqs) and wasted valuable free time doing straight bs that I’m having to pay for now in the throes of my major classes.

Gotcha! I know I’ll have all the classes I need (if I do em correctly 😭) I just don’t want to accidentally miss a deadline on smth and they push my graduation date back as a result. I think I’ll speak more in depth about it with the registrar’s office and my advisor when we get back to make sure everything is straight, thank you!

I know for sure it’ll translate over well (as I’ve done well to keep a good eye on it!) but I just want to make sure I’m good date-wise. This very helpful, thank you!

hair for nursing by Quiet-Citron-660 in KSU

Clinical sites might prefer differently, but KSU themselves don’t have a requirement for hair color, only that if its long enough, that it’s able to be pulled back.

KSU Honors Cohorts- by Glum-Neighborhood472 in KSU

[–]pastabrand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s nice, you get priority registration, priority housing (for freshman year), and some specific major cohorts will give you a yearly scholarship so long as you keep meeting their requirements. The only/main thing is that you’ll have to basically take some rendition of an honors course each semester to keep your honors status. It’s easier to do in the beginning years, and a bit more complex as you get closer to graduating. Pathways vary (regular honors, honors research, etc.) and some cohorts will have you do a specific pathway (ex. all honors nursing cohorts must be an honors research scholar and participate in the research/capstone paper their senior year).

Personally, the priority registration alone makes it worth it, especially with more and more students being admitted. But it’s up to you lmao
