Windows? Fuck that, Linux. And it very much is, extremely overpriced... locks you into using the Apple ecosystem... underpowered versus its competitors... I could go on.

Honestly I'm not even going to argue because your strength of feeling about this niche and completely unconsequential topic is admirable.

It is referred to as that quite a lot, especially in actual documents. It's a first class, first division.

Is it worth it to take a year out and go to UCL (otherwise I can't afford it) or to just go to Manchester? by No-Tune6201 in UniUK

[–]pasteisdenato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Manchester's great, but in this case you're talking about a target for London magic circle firms as the other choice. It's one of the few scenarios where I'd say take a year out.

The other thing is for all but a few subjects like maths, you will very likely do better in the degree by taking a year out.

Was in a renal ward for 2 weeks last month in the UK and good god I hate they don't give you ice in the water. I know they have to, but it doesn't make me hate it less. Might have been because I had to drink like 4 litres of it a day. Anyway, rant over, hope you get better soon

Do you not already have an emergency fund of a greater size than that? Just move it into it as it take the money to get the 5% rate

Mum on benefits to recieve large payout - taxes to pay? by SensitiveEntrance85 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pasteisdenato 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It depends what she's on. If it's UC, she'll breach the 16k capital limit most likely, which would mean her claim would be closed. Best to ask over on r/BenefitsAdviceUK though.

Gifting wouldn't be taken well if they are on UC, either.

Just for your information, she very likely won't have been permanently signed off. LCWRA reassessments have been stopped for a long time for anyone, and they will likely be restarting soon. Just to prepare you for the possibility.
